The GT3 version SLS might prove track-worthy, but I'm not holding my breath...and I'm a die hard Benz guy. Or at least I was till I got a ride in an '05 X-50 TT. MB has always leaned more towards the luxury/performance direction as opposed to producing a streetable track car. MB is a good car to go fast in, yet not spill your passenger's champagne.

My old 560SL is a dated example - moderate performance, great street ride, yet put in on the track or in an auto-cross event and it bucks and rolls like the Black Pearl in a heavy sea.

I'll still be pulling for the SLS if they ever show up in Grand Am or AMLS, but again, I'm not holding my breath.

Fantastic looking street car, though.

Just talked to local MB store and they have a silver/black one that I'll see later today.

Problem with turbo is that next version is probably 3 yrs out and I have never kept a car that long. I had a CL63 for 3 years and drove both the CL63 and the turbo for 6 mos. Big mercs are as nice as porsches but in much different ways. Let's face it, one of the resons to drive cars like this is the WOW factor and for a DD you can't do better than either of these.

Can't do both - what to do?

My turbo is in a garage covered with snow so I won't see it for at least another week or so. This may be just mid winter craziness.

I've heard the flappy paddle gearbox is a little jerky and it's not as responsive as the PDK or BMW's DCT.

That alone kind of ruins the idea of a sports car like an SLS doesn't it?

Blew off seeing the car. I'm in sales and have zero sales resistance so probably would have bought it.

Actually, when I told my wife where I was going she said "If you go to that #$?#$? car dealer, you can forget about every having $#% with %$ or %$## for the rest of your entire life."

So I said I was going out for a cup of milK and sneaked off to see the car.

I WAS NOT IMPRESSED.

Maybe it was the color silver/black, but the car looked very dull. Not the head turner that I thought it would be.

I was offered a test drive and turned it down.

Don't understand the attraction...if it weren't for the gull wing doors it wouldn't even catch a second look.
