sport chrono vs regular
sport chrono vs regular
when i was looking at 997 turbos to buy, i came across a car that had sport chrono and one that did not at the same dealership. I must say, the car doesnt not feel like a 997 turbo should until the sport button is pressed!
anyone know how fast 0-60 and 1/4 mile the car is with overboost and without? are pretty much all the magazine tests done with sport on?

I know on a 997.2 the sport mode is worth 35ft lbs of torque which all happens mid range. The HP numbers don't change. On a 997.2 TTs it's pretty much always in sport mode as far as the tune goes.
Also, sport mode changes the accelerator pedal mapping so it seems to be more responsive. My guess this is what you noticed.

its an absolute must to buy one with sport chrono. without it the power is more 'on or off' is best way I can describe it as it lacks the midrange punch at less than full throttle applications.
totally agree. On paper it doesn't sound like as much a but over driven, you know it us a must have option from a seat of the pants feel. What I was wondering is how much difference out makes in the 0 to 60 performance and quarter mile . I noticed porsche lists the numbers for the 2011 cars on their website with sort chrono and without.

In fact, i drive most of the time with the SPORT button OFF, just because the pedal mapping is so sensitive (aggressive?), its not good for city driving.

Handling is sharper in sport and even tighter in sport plus. Also, there's a change in exhaust sound when sport button is pushed. I'm sure that there's much more...
There's an after market conversion for the non-turbo 997 were you get the benefits but no wart. Don't know if it's available for the turbo.

I just did a track day with my new Sport button. I makes a huge difference. Not only does it offer more boost, it changes the all wheel drive bias to more rear wheel, uses a harder red limit and gives the accelerator a more aggressive modulation. It's available for all models of 997's that didn't come with the button. NO wart is included.
Here's a quick video of 997TT (tip) supposedly without Sports mode engaged - (see driver's comment around 1m42s mark). You may struggle to beat the housewives of OC or hip grandpa without it.
