Looking for a 959, aka could of had a 918!
I've been on the fence about this subject for a ling time. Finally going to start the search for a 959. I've had the delusions of grandeur for going on two years now, ever since I realized I could foot the bill for such a car. Growing up with modest roots I never thought I would someday go through the motions of such an acquisition.
I put my dream of a 959 on hold last year when the 918 was debuted. But when it was announced that it would cost almost $1MM out the door with taxes I gave that idea up and chose to wait for the used market.
So I move forward again with the 959. I currently have about 3/4 of the cash required on what most examples I've seen up for sale within the past two years. What I'm more concerned with is the history of the car. Specifically I want a car that I can do DEs with, especially Newfoundland, and won't feel to guilty about flogging it around for what it was designed for. I.E. rally racing.
If I wanted a car to buy and not drive I would get an F40.
So any suggestions on what I should be concerned with and what I should look for. It's not beyond me to fly to Europe to import an example, but would prefer paying someone to take a look for me first.
I'm not scheduled to be back in Europe until July, Lithuania specifically.
Currently residing in the East Bay area.

i believe canepa has a silver 959. it has all of their upgrades, including the second level engine upgrades. i think they are located in scotts valley so it shouldn't be too far you. if that one doesn't work you can talk them; it appears they move a few through there. very jealous---the 959 is my first if i win the lottery car

You could communicate with Weissach (weissach.com, although they are this side of the continent). They are the Canada's largest independent Porsche store, including authorized dealers for Lamborghini, Lotus... and Bugatti (if a Veyron is on your list
)
Been a client of theirs for well over 10 years - bought two Porsche's from them, and have nothing but good things to say about these guys. I'm sure they can find the right car for you, for a great price!
Shoot them an email!

The 959 is an awesome car but actually racing one today would not be a good idea. Once something breaks, trying to source parts will be a huge task and then paying for those parts will cause a minor heart attack.
Get the 959 and have fun with it, but if you want a real race car, save up and buy a Cup car and call it good. Lots of parts and support for newer cup cars.

Didn't they get their cars from Bruce Canepa? As I understand it, he is pretty much the man with the 959's.
