Are the '09 TTs worth the extra dough over the '08s??
Are the '09 TTs worth the extra dough over the '08s??
Happy Easter all! In a few months I'll begin searching for my Alpina B7 replacement as the factory warranty expires next Feb. This will be my first P-car and am fortunate enough to consider a turbo. Was just wondering if I were to locate an '08 and '09 both low mileage and good condition, would you fork out the extra dough for the upgraded electronics? I am not made of $ but can swing a bit extra if necessary. I've been spoiled by the luxury and amenities of the B7 and the turbo will be a DD as well.
Thank you all in advance!

The '10s are great but out of my price range at this time as we are expecting our second child in Oct. Looking to spend $85K to $90K.
Depending on the price difference, I'd go with the 09 purely for the updated PCM.
I am not sure what the delta between 08 and 09 is right now but if it's around 5k or so, I 'd go for 2009 (assuming both are CPOs). For 2k - 3k you can install top of the line pioneer navigation with bluetooth fully integrated into stock system.

I think the difference is between 10k - 15K which is pretty substantial for just better electronics, but then again what do I know....Will the pioneer navigation or any aftermarket navigation void the warranty?
That's a great question. I am afraid some dealers will blame aftermarket headunit for potential issues related to PCM etc.
Here's a great thread on Pioneer

I am thinking about doing this soon because I can't stand my PCM 2.0 in 2008.

my few cents...
I faced the same question, and ended up with the '09. I do enjoy the integrated BT, upgraded nav and iPod. But it's not why we buy a turbo specifically. If that was the case, we would be looking for a nice C4S and look to blend the tech into our driving experience. The turbo is a different animal, focused on performance as #1. It provides a thrill only matched by a few other cars (well above the turbo price of entry)...a thrill that's not from the Tech gadgets themselves but from the g-force it throws on you. I often find myself with the iPod off, phone off, nav off, windows down listening to the drive, enjoying the precise mechanical nature of the shifts, and undergoing forces of a jet fighter.
Part of my reason for the 09 was wanting the last year their timeless engine went into a turbo (only mental as it's no different from '07 & '08). If you can justify springing for the tech as well, do it, it's nice on a rainy day or if you're going to keep the car a long time. If not don't worry and don't look back.

I bought an 09 at the end of 2009 because I wanted one of the last 997.1TT cars built and all the new gadgets. 2009 will always be more desirable. You are not just getting updated electronics, you are getting a newer car that will have higher resale. Mine is a keeper but you never know... sometimes you have to get rid of your toys.
Personally, I am uncomfortable with aftermarket gadgets in the pcar but that's just me.

Since you don't want a car that is out of warranty (you said the reason you are disposing of the B7 is it is about to be out of warranty), then go for the '09. The '08 will be out if warranty soon. Seems counterproductive to get the '08.

The difference is that extended warranty is available for the turbo and I do plan on keeping the turbo for a while.
