not so Good Vibrations

I noticed recently that above 100km/hr on the highway I can feel the car "vibrating" a bit. Mainly in my back as the seat is vibrating enough that it feels like a massage chair. Not too much in the steering wheel. There are obviously many possibilities and I'm trying to rule things out and would appreciate any advice.

I recently had my clutch changed where they did drop the engine and tranny. I'm taking it back next week to have them check the mounts to make sure everything is tight.

It's possible the tires flatspotted over the winter. I'll be getting new tires put on next week (coincidentally) and that will rule out tire balance and flatspotting if it continues. The road surfaces may have taken a beating over our long winter but even smooth looking roads sometimes cause it.

I'm not sure if it's my imagination but I think I occasionally hear a little "clunk" from the front. I'll have the suspension bits looked at when it's on the hoist getting tranny/engine mounts tightened. If nothing shows up I'll check the car alignment.

Anything else that should be looked at here? e.g. differential, u-joints etc... lol, I'm not all that mechanically knowledgeable so I don't even know if the car has u-joints!

thanks

Haha, I'm pretty sure your car doesn't have U joints. My guess is flat spots on the tires. It always takes a few days driving to massage the rubber back out.

1. check wheels lugs
2. check if all of balance weights are attached

good point, I should just look to see if any weights are missing.

I've had the car out for hundreds of miles this year, would flatspotting always work it's way out? I inflated the tires to 50 something psi over the winter as per the instructions for storage.

Tire pressures are fine and the wheel lugs are torqued on.

I would get the tires remounted and balanced to see if it helps. My car had vibration at 170km/h + last year from rear; remount and balance the wheels solved the problem.
