is window tinting cheesey?
In California where it's illegal to tint the front windows, it looks a bit odd to have just the rear windows tinted, but it's better than being hassled by the police and meter maids all the time for having an illegal tint. For heat rejection, 3M Crystalline 90 seems to be the way to go.
I remember reading this thread a while ago and I had conflicting thoughts about it. I have always tinted my cars and was worried that it might come off as to tacky, cheezy or ghetto for the 911.
I figured I'd give it a shot and if I didn't like it I could always have it removed.
I am happy with the results

i usually just get the lightest tint possible. something along the lines of 60% in the front, and 50% in the back. just dark enough to keep the sun and UV out without looking stupid.
It Depends
Please - no disrespect to any guys with their car windows tinted...but I am starting to think it 'cheapens' for lack of a better expression, the look of the car....and having it removed on Tuesday. I am just trying to figure out in my own mind why I got up one morning and said - "this looks to gangster for me". Is it just me or our TT's simply too classic and too special to tint?
Well it depends, I don't like window tinting but here in South Florida the sun is pretty hard and with black interior it only makes sense. What I think takes away from the car is when people tint their lights.

It's interesting that all the California posters said that they always use tint. When I left there, it was completely illegal to apply ANY tint to a front driver or passenger window. Has that changed? I don't think so.
What is the recommended tinting level for a guy in the midwest that does not worry about limiting interior heat but just enough to tint the windows so that when folks look in, they can see my see my silhouette but not me?
When I'm driving or stopped at a light, I like to look around me but always feel funny as if I'm looking so that I can see who is looking at me and my sweet car! It's a bit awkward and I like to fly under the radar (I could never own a Ferrari for the even larger gawker factor). Usually at a light, I just look forward. I'd like a little privacy if I want to look around without folks able to easily see I'm looking at them or looking anywhere. Make sense?
I do not like the real darkened windows, I'd like them as light as possible while meeting my needs.
Thanks!
