Just bought a 997 with the gen 1 key; left the car wide open twice in one week. Couldn't decide whether to go DIY or not and in the end decided to spend the $50 on the part listed earlier in this thread. (Porsche should be making these available free of charge as the original key design is just so bad.) This note is to help anyone else decide in the future by showing what you get for your money.

The part number is 000 043 400 14 (labelled "Reparatursatz Handsender") and I got it from a Porsche dealer as there is one near where I live. I'm attaching a photo with the replacement trunk lid button in place and the original button shown to the left. The benefit of the new button is that the area of the button that activates the trunk lid is recessed whereas on the original button that area is raised. There may be other differences in the internal parts that make a difference too but they are not so obvious.

So far no unwanted activations...

Rep added for the DIY. Little flat head popped the key 3 sec with a dremmel till the grid pattern was mostly gone and WALLA.. It actually requires me to hold it for a sec which is exactly what i wanted. took about 2 min to do.

Flat head popped the key dremel for few second back together and it needs to be depressed for a second. Very happy

Nope. You just have to look for your lights to flash or listen for the doors to lock. I know on earlier cars you could bend the center console alarm switch out of the way. This would give you a quick honk to let you know there was a fault. I did it on my 04 but have not tried it on my 07tt.

Did the quick easy fix on my key and it now works great, no accidental openings. Thanks for the tip!

Problem solved!
Thanks again for the tip - rep point for you.

I'd been thinking of doing this for a while. When I'm not wearing a jacket I carry the key in my hand. Left a restaurant today and the key fell out of my hand and broke apart into multiple pieces. Thanks to another thread I was able to figure out where that little spring came from. While the fob was apart I took the dremel to it as per your instructions. Now I won't be afraid to put the key in my pants pocket anymore (fingers crossed).

I popped up the trunk lid accidentally as well after I get done putting gas and I reach for my keys in my pocket. I usually don't find out about it after I have a warning after I start the car. Annoying.

Twice is enough for me - I will give this a shot when I get back home from my trip.

Thanks for the tips!!!
