Real deal or chip scam?
Real deal or chip scam?
Have you guys seen this?
It appears that the same gains/power are listed for every vehicle type (very odd... maybe they didn't have the time to hire some one to create unique information for different vehicles)
.
I took a look at some of the testimonials (you know you can trust them, right?
...One guy with a 997C2S claims 6Mpg increase in fuel economy. Have no clue if this would work with an ECU tune (actually my guess it wouldn't).
Either way thought it was interesting find...

please do not buy this.
Are you really willing to put a generic ecu tune on a 997 turbo?
Youve modded your car very well so far, spent a couple grand and get a tune from a reputable tuner.
$70 tune which can be intalled by anyone on any car and improve everything about the car does not even sound right.
Edit: I see you have a softronic tune, so i assume(and hope) that you were just asking about this tune out of curiousity and not out of personal interest for instaling on the turbo.

"The GF module installs into your PORSCHE 911 TURBO's engine bay and is connected via 2 wires that plug into the IAT sensor."
Can we say SCAM ?
Too funny, but someone will undoubtedly fall for this crap.
Oh BTW they have some slick javascript on the page that prevents copy and paste, but if you list the page source, not an issue. Another sure sign of a scammer.

Unfortunately, there is no photograph of the device. By my guess based on what is described is that the tune involves sending an falsified IAT from the sensor located on the Y pipe before the throttle body, tricking the ECU into maintaining boost and advanced timing longer, when in fact temperatures are actually climbing beyond normally safe parameters.
Any tune that circumvents normal safety measures and protocols is not a safe.

It becomes pretty clear. The other thing you can do is a search. Plenty of topics about pros/cons of different tunes.

I have been doing alot of research and found mostly positive comments on all companies, most having similar HP gains. I guess what I am wondering is if the HP gains is very noticeable. I should have mentioned this in my post
It would be really tough to give an unbiased opinion on one or the other without having actually driven the different cars. Might be an excellent opportunity for us 6speeders to get together TopGear-style on an empty track and swap rides.
That said, the cars are so different (aftermarket components) that you'll never get a real world comparison of just what the ECU is responsible for.
Just from the reviews on here and speaking to fellow turbo owners I decided to go with Softronic. An yes there is a DEFINATE difference. It's a completely different beast, actually feels faster than the Turbo S (which I have driven).
Up from first through third gear it feels....
(ok,and don't kill me here for saying this - but I come qualified in this statement, which is a very subjective one, which I'll prove it later in this post)
...almost as fast as a Bugatti Veyron. Yes I have driven it and even met with Bugatti's test driver, and driving that machine was an awe inspiring and religious experience unlike anything in my life!
On paper and in the digital world it's an enormous machine capable of killing anything in it's path. But honestly, as a human (and not a digital logging device), sitting in a 600hp 997 TT, accelerating through the lower gears in a straight line, I can't tell the difference (honest truth)!

Have some pics up there of the Bugatti drive and meeting some of the big wigs and super stars :P
Something tells me this thread might explode from my statement above

There is also TPC Racing. They tune using the Revo software.
Finally, do not forget Protomotive. They tune using the Softronic software.
All of the above choices are great. Each has its own particular strengths.
For example, if you valet park a lot and are worried about the valet guys abusing your car, get the GIAC tune with the handheld switcher and valet mode...
My personal choice was to go with Softronic through Vivid Racing.
Scott, the owner of Softronic, is one of the most honorable and upstanding guys I have worked with. We kept battling away at the tune until we came up with this:

In the end, with any of the companies named above, you really can't go wrong!
Enjoy!
Couldn't agree with this statement any more. I had some issues reading the file and the service provided by Scott was excellent!
