Tubi Street Exhaust Sound

Hey Guys<O</O
<O</O
I am sure this has been asked a zillion times but I couldn’t find anything on the forum so here goes. Last year I installed a Tubi Street exhaust on my 08 911 Turbo and I love it. The only question/concern I have is when I start the car for the first 2 minutes the exhaust sound awesome deep and throaty and then it quiets down after about 2 mins. Is this normal because the exhaust note on start up is what I am looking for. I don’t want the Race version because I will have problems with inspections. Any help or advice would be appreciated.<O></O>
<O></O>
Thanks Steven

What you are hearing is the result of the cold start function which automatically activates when the engine is cold. It activates a valve in the intake plenum which alters the exhaust note to that "loud and crackly" sound. The idea of the cold start function is to heat the cats up as quickly as possible so they are able to arrest the emissions. Once it kicks off, the note returns to a more subdued tone. Regardless of what exhaust you use, whenever the cold start activates the note will be louder than when it deactivates.

There is a lot more going on than what Paul described, but he is correct.

What you describe sounds pretty normal. I'm afraid if you want that throatier exhaust sound with cats you're going to have to change exhausts to either FVD (which is what I have and love it) or EP (which is what a lot of others have and love that too). Tubi street is definitely more on the mild side.

P.S. Your cars sounds nice too. Have you had any CEL issues without the cats?

I had FVD catless exhaust system, personally, it's a little too loud for my taste and I can NOT hold a conversation with my wife whenever we go out for a drive. I've had Tubi street and it's too nimble and Im on GMG exhaust now and I love it for now.

My flash takes care of the O2 CEL if that's what you mean. No other CEL issues either.

Are you installing cats or catless? Either way, the sound is superb, no drone. Now you need to get a tune.
