legal advice please? I am tripping out a tad bit.

I wanted to ask this in 997tt section because i just like this section of the forum the most. So if mods could keep it here thatd be great.

Anyway i just received this letter to my house saying
"Los Angeles Police Department Investigator Contact"

It is a small piece of paper saying a detectives name and basically at the bottom it says
Investigation RE: 23103 VC/22350(i looked this up, it means reckless driving/speeding)
Says my cars license plate and says the location as the major street to get to my house.

It is saying i need to call the detective.

What the eff do i do?

I dont want to call because i feel as tho that is admitting guilt, but i dont want to ignore it because they may pursue me further.

What are your suggestions? and did someone just write down my cars license plate number or something or could it be a camera?

thanks guys

Search the web for an attorney who deals with driving violations ASAP and let him/her contact the police for you.

With the cars you can afford, I would let an attorney call them. No reason to put your foot in your mouth. Talking to the cops is nothing but trouble. If they catch you lying, they torture you with it in court. Lawyers are professional liars and it will be money well spent.

Ignore it - it it's legit and they really want to talk to you, let them come to you...then get your attorney involved.

Retaining legal counsel is not an admission of guilt. Legitimate law biding citizens have the right to legal representation.

they would have to be able to prove that you were the driver of the vehicle even if they have a crappy traffic camera. Get an attorney

phone him and ask what they want - 1 minute and it may resolve everything.

Call an attorney and ask for advise, if it's legit they can handle it, if it's not it's a brief consult.

Round file it.

If its something legit they will get in touch with you. If you have no recollection of a LEO encounter either its a camera or someone else was driving your car. Make them come to you and state what they plan to do. If they plan to pursue you with a charge get an attorney. Cameras are handled as non-moving violations in Texas but may be different where you live. Of course admit nothing...

Thanks guys. Will speak to an attorney friend tomorrow to get his opinion(not a specialist in traffic law tho)

Regardless i have decided i think i will just ignore it and if they decide to pursue it then i will put my guard up with a specialist attorney.

Thanks for all your help turbo community. lol

Just FYI - if it's a camera that got you - check for when your registration is due next as they might tack on the penalties to your registration notice.

I found the hard way when my registration was $800 (CA DMV). I was lucky as I was able to dispute it in court and won (wasn't the driver).

I suspect somebody must have reported you for something. I don't believe there are radar-cameras in CA but if there were, you would have gotten a ticket in the mail like red-light cameras. If it were me, I would call them and see what's up. At least you will know what you're up against. They probably have a whole list of these kinds of notices and you are now on their radar screen. You better not ignore it. I'm not sure what the penalties would be if they actually caught you for something like this after receiving this warning. Best to talk to a traffic lawyer.

Does not sound like the typical channels to me, ignore it. Unless your pulled over and cited I'd not be concerned one bit. If it was serious they would show up at your door.
