Unfortunately, there are a few high performance automakers who have completely abandoned manual transmission for double clutch. I fear the future if Porsche heads in that direction as well.
Not long ago I got talking to a couple of my BMW engineer buddies. They say early on with race cars, to avoid mis-shifts, they started the development of these auto-paddle shifters. However, they could have earlier put an electronic block tied with engine RPM to prevent mechanical misshifts to second gear with the single manual clutch systems but never tried that route.
Now they say, with the left foot hitting the brake, the driver can stop the car a few milliseconds faster than the driver using the right foot which has to leave the gas pedal first...... whereas with the left foot, it stands ready. That biz of using left foot for braking has to be started very early in one's life and can lead to mistakes more often, imo, than leaving one foot to do braking and acceleration.

And I think it makes drivers lazy. The incredible performance at the strip and track are due to mechanical and electronic advantages - hopefully Porsche recognizes that many of us out in the real world like the manual transmission.

+1000 - but as you said, we are a dying breed, my friend.

I have flappy paddles in my GTR, and I can appreciate their merit, but give me a good ol' clutch and H-pattern shifter any day of the week...

There is no need to ever remove the right foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal during downshifts if using the heel toe technique. Separate left foot braking and right foot throttle technique is used for completely different driving circumstances but this particular technique is usually reserved for performance track driving. The driving pleasure of heel toe is unfortunately lost in a PDK car and i think for that reason alone Porsche will always retain a manual option in its GT cars for the same reason it doesn't add AWD. The main let down of the current TTS is it removes one of the fundamental driving pleasures of a true sports car. Hopefully Porsche reinstates the manual option in the 991TTS. One can only hope.

There's a very very simple solution to that request.

Step 1...you but this beautiful RARE white 995 mile GT2 that we have for sale:

http://www.champion-motors.com/web/u...ition_id=10426

Step 2....you bring it over to us for the upgrades.

Step 3....you relax and enjoy just as much horsepower as you want, without any warranty worries, knowing that our Champion Motorsport warranty guarantees your ENTIRE car for as long as your factory warranty is still in tact. NO other tuner offers that.

Can't relax for long. That GT2 has only a 4 year factory which should be very close to expiring if purchased in late '07 or early '08. Guess you don't include an extended dealer warranty in your Champ-warranty.
Is looks like a great GT2, however. What is your reasoning for why Porsche pulled back on AWD on the GT2??
Guess you are not in the used car business so you don't take a 997.1 turbos in trade
In my very soon next Porsche turbo purchase, I most likelly will take you up on your warranty. You could make a 2011 base-turbo with "std trans" (no PDK, no "S") with HP of a GT2 or maybe the GT2 RS (620 hp)?? Never realized your warranty-policy on building HP in reg-turbo still within factory coverage.
Can you PM me an approx cost for a 2012 turbo-plain jane? Would want no more than an exhaust and flash and approx HP to expect. I was planning to trade my 997.1 (1-year left extended warranty) and this warranteed-enhanced HP could move up the purchase within a few months. And too, is this something that can be done in a day or two, if I drive the car to your location?

Hi John,

Our warranty covers your car for as long as the factory warranty is in tact....however long that is.

And yes...we absolutely do take cars in on trade, so we'd be happy to work out a trade deal with your current car. I'd have to put you in touch with one of my salesman at our dealership. Where in Florida do you live?

If you had a standard 2012 Turbo you could easily reach even higher HP levels then the GT2RS. Some simple bolt-on modifications could easily achieve that. And yes....even on a brand new car, our Champion Motorsport warranty still covers you.

Send me over an email with some details about your current car, as well as what you're looking for...and I'll try to see what I can find for you.
