997TT brake rotors
997TT brake rotors
I have an 2008 Porsche 997TT with only 8000 miles on it (stock red brakes), never tracked. My rear brakes started to make squeaking noises with light breaking. I called the dealership and they told me that the car was meant to be driven hard and that if I break hard then the noise would go away. It did work, but not completely.
My buddy has PCCB and his brakes does not make noise at all (2006 997CS). When I look at his rear brake rotor discs, they are smooth as a glass. So I took at look at mine... My front brake rotors are smooth as a glass, but both of my rear brake rotors has some tiny ridges on them. Is this normal? Could this be the cause of the squeaking noise with light breaking?
I stopped by the dealership and examined the rear brakes of a brand new 2012 997TT (red brakes), there were same small ridges on them as well!!! While the front brakes were very smooth. Other new 2012 997 models (non turbos) with red brakes are all smooth as glass (including the rear brakes).
Is this a 997TT specific issue? Or should I have my rear brake rotors replaced to avoid the squeaking noise? When you spent 6 digits on a car, you'd expect it to be perfect. This brake noise is quite embrassing and annoying. Other than the noise, the brakes felt perfect.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

From my experience most to all high performance brakes squeak. My PCCB's started squeaking recently too. I think of it as a trade off to having stellar brakes. It's just the way it is.

I have a 2007 TT with 33K and I have had squeaking brake noises here and there which I think is normal. My brakes are the standard red steel ones. In the last 6 months I noticed a different squeaking sound coming from the rear brakes right before the car stops when brakes are applied. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They told me its possible I picked up a small rock and to hit the brakes hard a few times to clear it. I did and it worked but I occasionally still get the noise (just not as often). The noise only comes from the rear and it is different from the usual "squeally" sound a lot of us get. This sound only happens right before the car makes a complete stop and it is a constant high pitched sound. Initially I thought that the noise was a result of worn brake pads but my dealer said the pads are fine. Hit the brakes hard where it is safe (slam on them) and that should take care of it.

How often do you drive the car and how often does that occur? I mean is it regular that you hear squeaking or is it happening on some occasions only?
