First drive in a GT2RS
First drive in a GT2RS
I have been watching the markets for signs of any GT2RS coming up for sale, as I missed out on the <ST1

UK</st1:country-region></ST1
release of the small number allocated by Porsche, here.

Anyway, I was browsing the web recently and saw one on the Porsche UK Approved Used Vehicles listing, and it looked to be of an interesting specification with very low miles but quite highly priced.

After several phone calls and delays due to my being away on business trips, I was finally able to book a test drive for yesterday.
The OPC were very accommodating and I can’t speak more highly of the professional way the salesman sorted out a test drive.

I took the car on a 10 mile route of mostly mixed dual carriage ways and good cross country roads. This car is in what I would call ‘semi comfort spec’, having the half roll cage, full lap belts and fire extinguisher BUT also having a/c, sound package, PCM, etc.
<O
</O
I already own a 2009 GT2 (in what I would call highly comfortable spec, with the GT2 carbon seats and PCCB) plus some modifications which I have had fitted to improve it a little. i.e. Dymag wheels with titanium wheel bolts, Evoms silicone induction hoses and a BMC filter.
<O
</O
So to the test drive; I found a little improvement over the GT2 in the in-gear acceleration and a little sharper corner turn in but not the significant difference that I had been expecting after reading all the test drive reports, etc. OK, so this car has done only 450 miles, mine had done 6000 miles and is nicely sorted.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the interior noise level and suspension over some rough roads was quite acceptable.
But I would not be able to use this on my regular long commutes (190 miles) into London as the half roll cage restricts rear access for the laptop, document cases, etc. and 6 point belts buckle makes for an uncomfortable seating position. The non- opening door pockets are a joke, as are the door pull straps.
<O
</O
So, bottom line; I’ll be sticking with my GT2 in the more comfortable spec and continue with the program of Evom’s engine upgrades over the winter months, plus won’t have to spend anywhere near what it would cost in differential between the value of my car and what is being asked by the OPC (its on SOR and the owner won’t move on the sticker price).
<O
</O
For your added entertainment; during the European winter I use my 997 Turbo which has already been upped beyond GT2 engine specs plus ECU & TCU changes, thanks to Evom’s and SG Motorsport.
<O
</O
So if you are looking for GT2 to use as a daily driver and not wanting a very expensive track day toy, then I would recommend searching for a non-RS spec car and enjoy for a lot less money than the perceived added value that Porsche build in to these ‘limited edition’ models.

I noticed that the rear did not 'dig down' as the GT2 is prone to do under hard acceleration (torque loading) but my test route was not over the type or classification of road where speeds above the UK limit of 70 mph could be tried safely, and not the best way of impressing a salesman that you are a responsible person with which to do business!
