3-4 hours of labor for changing pads? Are ceramic pads that tricky to slide in and out of the calipers? Once the car is up and the wheels are off, it literally takes me 10 min per corner to unbolt the caliper, take out the old pads, stick new dampers on the new brake pads and bolt the caliper back on.

Just curious, does the Porsche brake pad have a pad wear indicator? The one that makes the screeching noise.

They have electronic wear sensors that lets you know that the brake pads are done.

You may be able to get purportedly new OEM parts and Porsche dealer level service for substantially less money at a private tuner than an authorized dealer, but if you have a major issue will your supplier/local tuner stand behind their sale ? I'm quite sure that many will be honorable, but I'm 100% certain that an authorized dealer will honor their product and service, albeit at a premium. As an attorney I can tell you that only a fool would use a "will kit" obtained from staples to do their estate planning, but I'm sure that plenty of people opt for same saving many thousands of dollars in the process. Its not that your opting to be ripped off. Rather you are opting to have less problems. If you have been burned by a dealer that truly sucks, but like I said I have been lucky with my local dealer thus far. BTW I saw how many posts you have and its scary intimidating ! Do you own 6 Speed or what ?
I agree! As I get older I am more willing to pay for peice (and peace) of mind.

Thanks. I just read up a little on this: it's an electronic circuit and alarm goes off when the electrical path is interrupted? Does this work as advertised?

Is this what most people relies on to know when to change brake pad (for non PCCB brakes)? Or visual inspection by dealers still overrides the pad wear alarm?

We can certainly help with this repair...
PCCB's are not more difficult just need to take a little more time thats all

We also have options for pads from OE to aftermarket performance pads.

Interesting...my Turbo has about 34700 miles on her and she still has quite a bit of life in its pads. And believe me, those were not easily driven miles. I don't get it.

I will go with what's best for my car regardless of cost but I refuse to be taken to the cleaners like your dealership clearly is doing, Can.

I wouldn't rely on the wear sensors because the pads tend not to wear evenly. In other words, while they may still be thick enough that the sensor is not affected, at some area around an edge they may start scraping the disc. That's something you really want to avoid.

My experience with dealer measurements on pad thickness is not encouraging. All over the map and changing from test to test. I check it myself. Have to remove wheels for that.

Agreed - *among* other scams, like air filter in my wife's Lexus, that seemingly needs to be changed every time we change oil . Those of us not "mechanically oriented" are often at mercy of their bottom lines. In my case, it is even more suspicious because the car had same dealer's visit a few months ago and no one mentioned anything. Now all of sudden the brake pad has "10% left."

Nevertheless, can't complain too much because bottom line is it's a good thing they did. I am learning a few things from this thread, and now realize 30-40k is about the time a number of people with PCCB changed pads regardless of wear.

HansGT2: Thanks for the info about brake pad's uneven wear.
Fabryce: Thanks. I am closer to LA and Lucent does my suspension anyway so I am going to take it there.

Not to take this off topic but I just upgraded my suspension bits with new pieces from RSS. Control arms, rear links and toe steer links. It made a HUGE difference. I'm like every time I drive it now.

Hi Jason! Sure. More "planted," less rubbery right? Lucent always wants to put rear toe link in my car. Always as in every time I see him! Are you on R compound tires yet? So noisy and stiff, especially when old, but a major step in closing the gap between Turbo and Porsche's GT2/GT3.

Regarding brake, if you're at 35k, yes IMHO it's a good idea to change the pads. Especially knowing how you drive.

Can, I'm on the RE050A tires currently but will be upgrading to Super Sports soon. Still have a few thousand miles left to go. And yes, much more direct now. I was convinced after driving that Riveria blue 997.2 GT3 RS that my buddy Brian (brim) picked up. Only way to do it was to get the same stuff that he did. It's pretty close but not all there because clearly it's a Turbo not a GT3. You should listen to Lucent...he knows what he's talking about I can see that but get the lower control arms and rear links too. I was concerned that those would cause additional noises but after driving the GT3RS I realized there was none so I made the jump.

I had my pads checked recently..still plenty of life left in them. That's what I find puzzling.
