Dealer in sunny Southern Cal is quoting me 1100 for front, about 900 for rear PCCB brake pad replacement, part and labor. I have not called any other dealer for comparision. Is this about right or should I take it to my trusted Indi shop?

PCCB rotor is obviously a "sensitive" issue if it gets damaged, so I prefer to take to dealer for pad replacement even if it means I have to pay more (say $500 or so). Thanks in advance.

Can, here's the breakdown:

If you were to go completely OEM parts, the front and rear pads should be about $350-400 a set. Assuming that you need other parts as well, i.e. sensor, caliper clips, caliper bolts...which you probably don't...you would have an added cost of about $100 front and rear.

The time it takes to do a brake pad front and rear with a flush...even for a new DIYer, should be 2-3 hours, maybe?

If you consider current hourly rates for a Porsche tech, I think your cost is high.

You could also search for Pagid P40 from a different source for a lower price (they are the same as OEM.)

 

Welcome back Can ,there is nothing magic in labor as far as replacing the pads on ceramics breaks ,,one needs to be very careful ,that's all.I did my myself

I would try Endless pads.

 

Thats what I paid - about $2K for new OEM ceramic brake pads with labor from my authorized dealer Porsche of Roslyn (NY). However, anybody can do the job as others have said. You certainly do not need an authorized dealer or OEM parts, but like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. At my dealership they are literally outstanding if there are any service/parts issues. Lana and Lucciano in the service dept. are the best and make sure issues are resolved. If your TT is out of warranty and you want your local tuner shop to do this I'm 100% sure you will spend way less. Some will say that guys like me get ripped off, BUT as my TT is leased, I prefer to pay a premium AND be able to demand the highest level of service. Some have suggested going to Brembos, but again, as my car is leased I'm not about to start modding a car that will be returned to Porsche. Now if I owned my TT I think I would strongly consider another brake option other than going with OEM parts. My 2 cents.

 

If you price out the cost of spark plugs from the dealer versus buying the plugs directly from the OEM manufacturer, you are getting the exact same plug, but at a 150-300% discount. You do not always get what you pay for. :

If you don't mind me asking, how many miles do you have on those brakes that need replacing? Are you tracking the car or just daily driver? I can't imagine that the car has more than 30k miles. Aren't PCCBs supposed to last a lot, and I mean 75k miles... ?

 

I took in my 997.2 TT with only 2,500 kms (approx 1300 miles) to Porsche service about a month ago and have 95% brake pad life left on both the front and rears. This includes 4 track days. I was amazed at the life that was left in these pads. I even had them double check the pads just to make sure.

 

My sales rep told me that I can easily count on 75k miles if driving regularly as my DD. That's why I am puzzled...

 

If you drive poorly, PSM will chew your rear pads enough to trash your rotors.

 

can I get ceramic rotors and pads and install them on a non-ceramic 997 TT?

what about calipers of ceramic vs. non-ceramic 997 TT?
