Clear bra on my TTS
Clear bra on my TTS
I need a ballpark number of how much I should be paying for clear bra. They are covering full hood, lights, fenders, etc for $1650. Is this about right? Is it worth doing, or is it a waist of money?
Thank you so much guys. I was not sure if it was worth placing this clear bra on the car. I had the attitude that if the car ends-up getting hit by debris, then it's what happens when you drive a dd. I guess preventing the nicks is a better attitude then just waiting for them to happen. If the price seems reasonable then I might just go forward with it.
I had it on my 07tt, whole front end/hood etc, hated it. Constantly aware of the seams, which look like crap. Can't really wax it, turns yellow, etc
on my new one I only did the front bumper.
Your price I'd good though.

TT brings up a good point.
You HAVE to make sure your installer is using a quality material. Less expensive materials will discolor over time and scuff/scratch easy.
The higher end materials, are extremely thin, nearly invisible, and can be waxed/polished just like the rest of the car.
Very happy and if it needs replacement in a few years-I will. Hoping to avoid Road Rash.
Enjoy that Black Beauty.

It is really worth it. I did the front hood but I really wish I did the entire car. The side skirts on mine are really chipped from the track and if I had done it there it would be so much easier then repainting. Also it is less maintenance then waxing.
Good price and worth it
I was quoted around 1200 for just the bumper in VA at the dealership. Nothing looks better than bare paint, but I'd probably still rather keep my paint intact under some protection. I'd do it, but maybe just the bumper as TT did.
Saving a few hundred bucks buy not going with a top shop is acutally a poor choice. In researching shops and materials, I came across so many hack jobs. The material aside, this is an instance where the skill of the installer is imperitive. Working with Razor blades 8 microns away from Porsche Paint is not for a guy who moonlights in this stuff. Get the most expericed guy you can find. Also,as a rule guys who do this on the road or in your location were, from my findings producing sub par results. You need a very clean, dust free (OK maybe really clean) environment to apply Clear Bra. I looked at may cars and on light colors you can somtimes see dust-even found a hair trapped under the clear flim. That would drive me nuts.
Since you are in California, if you are anywhere near Premier I would check them out. In NY-Detailing Dynamics. DD did my car and I am very happy. I had mine custom cut and chose what I wanted covered, and in which material.
Hood -(entire hood) Venture Shield
Entire front nose cone-Bumper to lip spoiler-inclusive-3M Scotch Guard
All Forward Facing lights-3M HD Light Guard Film (Heavier then film)
Entire Fenders-3M Scotch Guard
Rocker Pannels, Wheel Wells and kick up areas behing wheels front to back-3M Scotch Guard
Wheel Wells and kick up areas-2nd Scarificial Layer of Film 3M Scotch Guard. The 2nd Layer is ever so slightly smaller and can be removed and replaced without disturbing the base layer to extend the cosmetic life of the car.
Clear Bra=Good Investment in a very expensive car that you care abouut. When done right, it look 98 %. I would prefer is the paint was impact resistant but this is the best alternative.
The materials haver come a long way so do not judge from past experience on materials. I chose the 3M scotch guard since it has a clear coat like a cars paint. it can be polished and corrected. It is the most durable of all the films. I used the Vdenture Shield on the hood because the 3M scotchguard is not wide or long enough to cover the 911 hood and I did not want to see any seams on the car at all.
Good Luck-Enjoy your car. Hope this helped in some way.

I've been very satisfied with this product. I did the same install as shown on this GT2RS.

OP - I think you're gonna get pricing all over. Go with a reputable guy and you'll be all right. Since you're in California, my rec would be Premier. I've used them for years and have sent countless friends and coworkers to them. All praise them.
Another vote for a clear bra.
I had my '11 TTS whole front + fenders done in the Xpel Premium. I'd had 3M before on other cars. I can't say enough about how good the premium Xpel looks. If anything, the front looks like it has a better wax!
