I see your points. I've only been a PDK owner for 4 months. I've spent just two days at the track this year so far. But away from the track, I still like it. I like the convenience when I am in heavy traffic. Putting into drive is nice. I just got home from a family vacation in France and did a lot of driving in a manual as that is all they have. In Paris traffic, it was a pain. On the open road, no problem. I still prefer the PDK now.

My wife hasn't driven the car yet. She is afraid to ding it as she scraped my underbody on my last Porsche!

Understand. But driving too much in traffic isn't what this car is about. Maybe another car if the count soaks heavily into the 365 . And 2 days at the track is better than no days. My count is suffering badly these days too. Anyway there wouldn't be much to not like about a new turbo S.....excepting that PDK. But enjoy it while the love is strong And on the misses...well its funny how it all starts out dandy but the first scape can send them packing....not such a bad thing in the long term ownership.

Things that you can do with your left foot once you get rid of that 6 sp.

1. Count to five (maybe).

I've had the PDK for 16 months and have driven 12000 mi. Love it more each day. There are so many ways to drive it that unless you have one you can't understand.

For instance, in sport mode you can jab the throttle and cause a downshift with blip from 5 to 2.

Anyone know the answer to this? I'm curious as well.

PDK might not be for everyone but there is no denying its the future, much like all of the similar transmissions. Next time around Im going PDK or dual clutch whatever car I end up buying...not sure if I will stay with the Porsche brand.

Why I crossed the GTR off my list almost immediately. I just love rowing through the gears!!! I drive my 997 in traffic all the time, it's really not that bad...

The pdk is lightning fast in sport plus mode, it would take an expertly driven manual to beat it on a road course. However, I still miss my old 6 speed car.

Its kinda harsh to write off the "PDK" because its only going to improve from here on out. Likely a software update should improve the smoothness from 1-2 or downshifting and lurching, as was common with BMW's SMG. I would think Porsche would figure it out in their next version.

The mastery of heel and toe shifting is what separates the true sports car drivers from the everyday Sunday driver. To be able to smoothly gear down while braking is my goal in becoming a faster driver. I can practice this in everyday driving, along with keeping the car in the power band and concentrating on smooth control at all times.
PDK eliminates the necessity of mastering this most satisfying of all driving experiences, in my opinion.
Is it any wonder that Ferrari has abandoned the elimination of the manual transmission (WTF!!!!!) and is now offering it on the Ferrari California?

Hate to say it, but been a hardcore manual driver for past 20+ year, but PDK converted me. PDK all the way

I will stay with the 6 speed for the same reasons people prefer boxers over briefs, boxers for me, it's genetic

Now for my cheap shot:
PDK is an evolution of chicktronic...

In the end drive what you enjoy and be thankful you can.

Ferrari is not alone in their decision to abandon the manual transmission. Many exotic/super sports car manufacturers have gone the way of the dual clutch transmission. As much as I agree with you about driving skill and perfecting one's skills, no human will ever emulate the speed at which PDK shifts - and in a turbocharged car, it makes an enormous difference in performance.
