First gear sucks on 997 tip

Im sure you tip owners have felt the ridiculous lag when you mash the pedal at a light and sit their waiting for a second or two for the car to turn into a Porsche Turbo I did a search on the forum about the anemic nature of the tip from 1st gear till 2nd when you floor it but didn't find any solutions. Besides brake torquing, is there any way to get the car to jump out of the gate? (and yes I know this is bad for the car repeatedly but once in a while is ok, right?) Does an ECU tune "fix" this problem?

Thanks

My car's take off is anemic if I leave it in auto mode as the car starts off in second by default. So I go to manual mode and start off in 1st, the car will automatically shift the gear at red line, makes for an improvement as compared to letting the automatic handle it. This is for a standard line take off. It's not worlds better, just improved. My understanding is a ECU/TCU upgrade along with an exhaust upgrade does help the car improve take off in the lower RPM range..

If I start in first gear my car flies off the line. It's a bit of a pain though to get it on first gear in auto. Got to put it in first gear in manual then put it back in auto sport mode. If you were driving aggressively prior to stop and were in sport mode the gear will be in first automatically when you stop.

Hey Fellas, I have had some experience/ small problems along the way with my trans build on my tiptronic- Through out step by step mods including TCU tuning for faster/harder shifts, as well as upgraded clutch packs are mods that help built stability in my trans for 800+whp... But it wasnt till the 3rd time the car was in the shop for a leaky trans, I decided to upgrade the torque converter... Upgraded torque converters benefit off the line by having the car engaging slightly higher in the rpm , so its already in boost and your off.

I'm guessing you are not talking about the PDK? I don't feel anemic with my tip.

I have the PDK and in first gear, especially in sport mode my car roars out from a dead stop. And this is in manual or auto mode.

Yes! Launch control 101. Just try to let the Tiptronic cool off inbetween hard launches, they tend to get hot really quick... And eventually slipping with higher HP/modded turbos.

No pain at all, just put on sport mode and the car launches in 1st gear by it's self.
You can do 100s of launches (not using the brake) sport mode 1st gear with no problem. I do 5-6 launches one after the other, no problem.

The problem is when brake boosting when car is stopped.

I think torque converter when modified will engage earlier and launch faster, but then it might be less reliable for every day use, best thing is to use brake a little 1500rpm and let go, no need to brake boost till turbos kick In. This will give you a better launch without harm on the tip
Give it a try

Thanks! I don't know what part of "Tip" and "07" people are missing!!

Yes, PDK is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But for those of us lowly 997.1 Tip owners, any advice on getting granny out of the gate would be appreciated!

Thanks, I'll try that. I've done some brake torquing up to 3000 rpm but have always been afraid of breaking something. And yes, the manuals definately launch better but I bought the tip believing the magazines and porsche itself that the 0-60 is anywhere between 3.4-3.7 seconds--faster than manual. But I don't know how they get those figures unless they are brake torquing the car to death!
