To tune or not to tune - need opinion
Guys, I've had my TT for a few days now and already got bitten by the tuning bug. My local Porsche dealer has an offering that includes a Europipe exhaust, BMC sport filter and a Softronic ECU tune for $11k out the door including all labor and taxes. And it would not affect my warranty / cpo according to the dealer.
What do you guys think...should I take the plunge...

if you break something major the dealer without a doubt is going to blame mods. if he told you that get it in writing and mod away! skip the filter, double check the pricing with europipe direct and vivid for the softronic, sounds high to me?
Definitely sounds high. For that money you could be close to a 650hp package (not including labor, of course). Peace of mind is another issue. If they give you something in writing regarding your warranty and that is important to you then I'd say just go for it. Either way, you'll be happy with the mods!
Priced individually about $8,200
Tax maybe - $700
Labor (generous 6 hours) $800
Lots of markup at $11K
Go see Hans at RAC - near the Addison AIrport
If the dealer says no effect on warranty make sure you get that in writing since PCNA who ultimately will decide whether or not to pay the dealer for any warranty work typically won't honor warranty if DME has been modified.

I might be crazy here but since you just got it I would honestly say drive it for a few hundred miles stock first.. That way you can appreciate what she is out of the box first and then start modding the things you want addressed
I just got my 997.1TT back from Park Place Porsche in Dallas and I got new GMG exhaust with 200 cell cats, new spark plugs, FVD tune, and annual service/oil change for ~$9500 including parts, labor, and sales tax.
well , i will not discuss the price for the package , but all what am gone say if the dealer will keep your warrantly go for it .. i just tuned 997.1 turbo with softronic tune and exhaust + filter .. 6.1sec from 100-200km and we were 2 in the car !!
so in my opinion its great deal , plus if you want to go for more mods later .. you can get retune from softronic ..
i started moding my car by softronic stage 2 , now i went to diffrent stage and GT30s turbos .. all what i can say .. its awesome !!!

Wow! I didn't even know dealers offer mods. I think a couple of thousand extra bucks is well worth the peace of mind that if you have any problems, not only is their mod work warrantied, but they won't try to void the original factory warranty on the other stuff. This has been the #1 reason why I haven't modded my 997TT yet--fear of warranty issues. Does anybody know if there are dealers in SoCal that do this?? I would jump all over that if they'll put it in writing.

As for the price, My guess was that materials cost would be around $9k if I order all parts myself individually and then another Grand for labor plus whatever sales tax is applicable for the individual items.
I guess it comes down to whether I trust my service advisor to tell the truth when he says that the dealership will sanction the mods they are putting in and back me up in case of any warranty issues.
Yep, that was my thinking as well but my service advisor told me they do quite a few upgrades a year. And it would be a dealer installed part and invoiced on their letterhead as authorized Porsch NA dealer. When asked if he would put it in writing that there will be no problems with Porsche NA if a warranty issue should come up he started wriggling a bit...but I do believe he's an honest guy and wouldn't feed me a bunch of BS.

+1 on Speeds advice on the warranty, never heard of dealer signing off on that.
+1 on Sharkster advice, drive it for 2000 miles, see what you have and like/dislike.
Great cars bone stock, live with it for a while, buy some cool wheels......

Lots of good advice coming your way.
What I did first was work on the things, IMO, I thought I'd get the most out of everytime I take it out.
Exhaust, suspension, OEM aero front, GT2 sides and rear valance (all painted to match/clear filmed) and wheels. While these cars are a blast to drive fast, I've found it extremely difficult to do so on a regular basis, both in Arizona and Texas. Don't track my car, which is where it should really be for truly pushing. With that, I get a lot out the upgraded appearance, stance/handling and great exhaust sound that I can enjoy all the time while driving anywhere.
I know I'll eventually get the tune as the desire for that rush will never fade, just wanted to share the order I'm doing things.
Enjoy, awesome cars...
