Intercoolers...
Hi Speeders!
I'm a bit upset trying unefficient Ics...
(
)
You know all my set up: upgrded VTGs, Proto' tune, full 2.5' exhaust etc...
(997.1TT 6spd)
My pleasure is running my car but also V-boxing and Durametric logging it.
My method for logging is running 2000 to 7000 rpm on each gear full throttle.
By about 15°C AT:
-in 3rd almost all the Ics are OK (IAT stays <30°C)
-in 4th the most are Ok
-in 5th NO ONE tryed is ok!!!
-in 6th NO ONE too of course...
My car is 40000kms, in perfect health and coming back from inspection, no boost leakage or else. (running 100-200 in 5.8', 60-130 in 6.75' and 100-300 in 21.9' by 7°C AT, pumpgas)
It takes me an half hour to log any IC once bolted, I can explain how to do it to any brand! (kidding
)
I tried 997.1 ICs (Bull****), 997.2s (better but not enough) and other brands present here wich were as bull**** as 997.1 parts except flowing; I will be fair and won't tell which ones (but I can tell it to the Brands themselves by Mp if wanted)
So, message for intercoolers providers:
My need is NOT a 60-130 or 1/4mile "only maxi flowing" part, I need parts able to hold at least one 2000-7000 in 6th by 15°C AT.
I do not name the brands tried cause I did not buy them myself but friends, but the ones I will buy and log of course will be NAMED, bad or good, but if a little guy like me can log it in a few minutes, why not big brands? And I don't care with dyno charts, only road long pull logs show how IAT grows vs AT and if there is time pulling or not.
Info: My 997.2 ICs can't hold a 5th pull by 15°C, IAT starts at 22°C and reaches 49°C, at 40°C lambda starts enriching and timing looses 2 to 4°...
My goal is not to discredit anybody, only to go ahead!
Cheers,
P.

Well , after i installed the methanol kit , if the weather air tem is 30c , your iats will reach 20c in wot , and max in 5th gear will reach 30c !!! So if you aware from the iats , you should think about meth kit
Thanks
Thanks
- meth kit
- better Ics
For now I would prefer better Ics, more "natural"; and I do not know anybody in France who have any experience with Meth kits on 997TTs, the nearest might be Emre in Istanbul!
(I must admit I'm a bit scary with meth...)
You probably speak about the famous Secan's...
That's right I have only heard good things about them, but >10000$ too, for a great racing team with sponsors, perhap's, for playing the week end with my car...
And are they really far different than others, I hope finding a compromise!
If some of you Speeders run one pair of AM Ics and is pretty happy with, please log your car with a Durametric and share!

RS Tuning do not use Secans anymore. Secan do not produce motorsport cores anymore. A good source told me this.
Hi K24F,
Got your PM. Unfortunately the AM coolers you mentioned have provided worse IAT logs than the .2s. Not even the CTRs or Secans ($15,000+) will give you the results you seek. As if mentioned before, there's only so much cooling you can get when constrained to a ~14" x 9" core. Like ysfg35 and Todd said, go with a meth/water injection kit with a big tank. I installed one on my car with a very small M4 nozzle at high pressure (225 psi) and my IATs rarely exceed 10C over ambient. With a bigger nozzle you may never exceed ambient but the reason I went with the small nozzle is because I wanted it solely for IAT reduction and not as an octane boost / extra fueling. IMHO, this is where people get into trouble.

Yes, Todd told me they are 2 possibilities:
- meth kit
- better Ics

no issues and my car loves the meth
contact emre@esmotor he know very well about these kits
me , am useing 2 big nozzles , this is enough to reduce the iats from 40c to 22c than high till 39 n red line in 5th gear !
I'm asking because if the sensor is getting 'soaked' with methanol, as it evaporates it will give a local cooling effect that might exaggerate the lower IAT values. Not saying you're not getting cooling effects because you obviously are, I'm just curious about the accuracy of the IAT senor output when covered in methanol. If you ever got some methanol on your skin, you will notice how cool it gets upon evaporation. Spraying furthest away from the sensor would seem like it would give a more accurate temp reading of the air/meth mixture.
