Chirping/cricket sound from engine/belt at idle

Hi all,

I recently noticed that my 07 911TT makes a chirping sound at idle. It sounds like an excited cricket in the background. It's only at idle and only after the car is warmed up, never on a cold start. Is it a bad bearing in the alternator, idler pulley, belt slipping? I tried to upload a video I shot with my cellphone but it was too large based on the restrictions. I did, unfortunately, spray a belt conditioner on the belt some time ago (I was frustrated with all the water that was constantly hitting the belt after a car wash or after rain and was hoping this would improve the longevity of the belt). I probably did more harm than good . Think it's related? Any thoughts are appreciated...

Thanks

No, my friend you are no the only one with this “cricket sound” problem.
This is one of the main flows in the layout and placement of the engine and the exhaust system in the back.
The exhaust create extreme heat right next to all belt tensioning rollers, alternator, water pump, pulleys, atc. Because of this excessive heat that is constantly there after some time all factory lubrication simply drays out, and those parts become noisy
The only and relatively easy solution is to apply some new lub over all pulleys and rollers. After that your engine will be quiet again for some time. .
Cheers.

I used to get nasty chirping all the time if I let my 07 turbo stay parked in a heavy downpour while at work. Even with belt replaced...same chirp came back when engine off with heavy rain. I cover the opening now with a small rubber mat at work if heavy rain coming and also use the mat when car is washed. Since this precaution no more chirp. Occasionally the turbo will be caught parked in a heavy downpour, then the chirp re-appears and takes about 3-4 days of driving to get it to stop. The belt-dressing should help, but with the dressing, the rubber like belt seems more suseptible to the chirp once the dressing washes off in a strong downpour. To diagnose the 1st belt chirp, Porsche tech used bell-dressing by applying carefully to just belt and chirp stopped immediately. We get tons of forceful rains in Florida. The water on the engine, has cost me a mass-air sensor as well.

Thanks for the info guys. Oddly enough, I took it out for some very spirited driving yesterday and the chirping is gone. I don't know what happened (maybe I burned off the excess belt conditioner??) but I'm glad it stopped. I'll see if it comes back...

Thanks
