Cracked windshield.. 2011 TTS Cab :(

Hey guys,

I have a 2011 Turbo S Cab that has under 3000 miles and a crack in the windshield already.. Not sure when it happened, but just glad that the rock didn't hit anywhere else.

Someone else started a thread about a cracked windshield and how a replacement was difficult to find from their local windshield company. I'm not taking any chances and going straight to my dealer to order one and have it properly installed.

I was wondering if anyone else has had experience in windshield replacement, and if there is anything I need to be aware of and what the cost is. I have the entire front of my car protective with clear film, and now I'm wondering if I should cover the front windshield as well.

Thanks in advance!

Your shop may contract a local windshield/glass shop to do the install. It could even be Safelite. I would ask them about it. If this is the case, then you need to do your research to make sure it is the best shop. I think it costs around $1500 to replace a Porsche windshield.

I found the best shop locally, who had done hundreds of Porsches, but they still managed to F-up my car. You cannot be too careful.

how big is the crack? If it is very small maybe safelite can come fix it without removal

Sorry to hear. In Florida it is replaced under auto ins with zero deductible. State law.

The OEM windshield (had mine replaced after it cracked) was north of 1k on my C4s. Either I got ripped off or your replacement was not OEM.

It's Sunday and the dealerships aren't open for price inquiries, but that sounds like an extremely reasonable price. Can you confirm if your windshield is the same one that came with the car?

Installer broke mine

I picked up a starfish crack in my 2008 TT. I have a windshield rider on my ins - so its a $25 deductable.

The installer came out to my house. Takes out the old windshield. When sitting in the new windshield, he hit one of the wiper posts and puts a crack from top to bottom in the new windshield.

Since the original was not as bad as the replacement, he ended up reinstalling the old windshield and they sent a different installer a few days later who did it right.

A real pain in the asssss.

Good luck.

ERSKATEDOC - that is pretty common. Also, if the gap is not as factory spec around the glass, one big bump and it can crack again.

I've had to replac my windshield twice in 3 years on my '08 Turbo. Safelite did it both times with OEM windshield ordered from Porsche. The local dealer in New Orleans doesn't do windshield replacements in-house anyway. They send all their work to Safelite also. Safelite here in Covington, LA did an absolutely beautiful job both times and treated my car like it was their own. I saw the bill and it was about $900. I carry 0$ deductible on my comprehensive insurance because I can expect to pick up a rock once a year or so. Only adds about $10/month to the premium compared to having a $500 deductible, but it has paid for itself several times over already.

Mine was OEM Porsche glass for a GT2, so maybe why it was more expensive. I only paid the $500 deductible.

Maybe I should get some new quotes with a lower deductible.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Called my local Porsche dealership and was told that the windshield needed to be ordered, and it will run me about 750.00 for everything complete (includes the rubber that goes around edges that apparently needs to be replaced), and approximately 300 bucks or so for labor. Honestly thought it would be more, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

But the great news is that through Leland West Insurance (broker for American Modern Insurance out of Ohio), I opted for the 'extra coverage' which included glass, free towing, and some other goodies- with a ZERO deductible, all for 10.00 bucks more a month. The dealership sent the proposal to the adjuster at the insurance company, and I was reassured that everything will be taken care of by this week.

Now my fingers are crossed that the dealership won't mess anything up! Also makes me wonder if it's worthwhile to install protective film over my windshield. Anyone take that route for peace of mind?
