Squealing noise after warm up

I have a 997.2 TTS and have just started to notice a squaling noise from the engine compartment lately. The noise sounded like a slipping belt and only occurs after a warmup. The car was washed quite a few weeks ago so I am not sure if the "flooded" engine compartment can be an issue. But the car also was not driven too much (need to change that!!!) and can the belt still be moist/wet?

Any idea? TIA.

How many miles do you have on the car? Could it need a new belt?

It could be the oil separator. Mine made a strange squealing and that turned out to be the problem. The wet belts sound should go away rather quickly.

How about a belt dressing spray to help diagnose the speculated blt problem? If it doesn't go away then take it in. Or maybe get a cheap mechanics stethoscope and listen around if you can get the car on a lift. That is if you like to tinker, otherwise have the dealer give it a once over.

Dealer visit for a thorough once over would be my vote. It can be very helpful to have problems documented even if they can't reproduce them the first time. This will establish an initial date of complaint that could end up working in your favor if the same issue continues.

Be careful with the belt sprays. I had the same issue with wet belts after washes so I figured why not dress the belt just to prevent early damage of the belt (I can't imagine chronic water on the belt after washes can be good for rubber). Anyway, I sprayed that stuff and THEN noted a chirping sound coming from the idler pulley. Anyway, I reved the engine high for a couple of minutes and was able to get the chirp to go away but only after a week or so. Probably was result of belt spray hitting a bearing somewhere which is not good. My advice, don't spray a $140K car with $2 spray from pep boys

You should always shield anything that is bring sprayed. That is why they have little red extensions to guide the spray. But definitely just spraying in the general direction is not a good idea. A gentle squirt, then listen and repeat if it is better but still persists. Soaking the snot out of everything in the region is NOT recommended.

Don't know if the Porsche tech uses anything different than you could get although if it is labelled Porsche than it could be a $20 belt dressing spray.

Since the car is under warranty, taking it to the dealer is the right decision.

I had a similar noise on another car and it ended up bring a exhaust manifold screw that would squeak when the car war is park but not when in gear. Belts and pulleys were replaced only to still leave the squeaker. Finally they figured that out but the car had the center, rear diffs and drive shafts removed. And by deduction, I must assume the exhaust was off at some point. The tech must not have thought it was a big deal to have an extra screw after re-assembly.

Good luck.

I have had slipping problems with my 2012 TTS. Had it tightened once and it is slipping 6 months later. I first noticed it after giving the car a wash.

Did you go back to the dealer? Also, which belt was slipping?

I’ve had the same problem with squeak after warm up. It has been to the shop more then once and still is not fixed. So far the AC compressor, idler pulley and alternator have been changed. Work done at Porsche dealer. Any update on this thread? Thanks.

One of the main flows of the Porsche 911 is in the layout and placement of the engine and the exhaust system in the back.
The exhaust system create extreme heat right next to expose belt tensioning rollers, alternator, water pump, pulleys, AC compressor atc. Because of this excessive heat that is constantly there, after some time all factory lubrication simply drays out, and those parts become noisy
The only and relatively easy solution to keep the engine running quiet - is to apply some lub over all pulleys and rollers when needed.
Cheers.
