Hi Nick, if you are thinking about Swain coatings, contact Chad (cjv.) He's had a lot of experience in fabricating and design, and has info on Swain coatings.

No Nick but I have a few thoughts. First, this black body "emitter" coating implies that its enhancing the radiation portion of the heat transfer process and that all the coated parts of the intercooler are the hottest thing in the surrounding environment. Nearly all of the heat transfer from an intercooler to the environment is from convection. In an environment where the coated item is substantially warmer than the surrounding enviroment you may some small gains.

I would NOT coat the inlet tank of the intercooler as its about 5 inches from a 1000+ degree turbine housing and your black body "emitter" just became a black body "absorber" in the worst way. If you have money to burn, coat the core and the outlet tank only, and treat the inlet tank to reflect radiative energy, not absorb it.

Glad to see some companies leaning towards coolers that look like they will actually cool well. A friendly request to back these things up with IAT data. A 0-280kph+ sprint with ambient temp and boost logged is an easy benchmark to get a very good idea of what the core is doing. As an example, I recently saw a post claiming an 80rwhp gain from intercooling and headers, these are the same coolers that people requested IAT logs from 3 years ago to no avail but are still boasted as "the best". Why would you "test" a *heat exhanger* under only 5 seconds of loading?

Cheers Bobby but I don't think it's worth it as yet.

I agree the logs up to high speed are a must and now the weather is getting warmer I will be doing multiple runs too 300km+ in the next couple of months. I just want to get my hybrids on the car first!

Hi Earl, for heat exchangers, wouldn't you want the interface (the metal layer between hot air and cool air) to be as thin as possible, to conduct heat as fast as possible?

In other words, between A. aluminum versus B. aluminum + coating, A would have better heat transfer coefficient because it is thinner and has one less layer. I would expect the coating to impede heat transfer and therefore would actually worsen performance, no? Or am I missing something?

Hello,

Very nice looking intercoolers.

Rhonda, are these for the 997.2 TTS as well?
