Possible dumb question about PDK
Possible dumb question about PDK
From the old days when I first learned to drive a manual, I have been told that when I stopped at the traffic light or for a long period, I should put the car in neutral and take my foot off the clutch to reduce wear on the clutch plate. Does it apply to PDK since it is still basically an auto manual with clutches? I could find any related post here regarding this topic so I thought I would ask in case I should treat PDK different from an auto tranmission with torque converter.
No. As the PDK is the new automated transmission, I would find it unlikely that Porsche would see it necessary to "learn how to drive" a PDK properly. To the best of my knowledge the car is actually put into a neutral gear by the PDK when not moving. The earliest versions of the PDK actually exhibited a bit of a stutter or hesitation because of this, similar to the DSG transmission VW uses. However, the whole process has been refined since, and we now have an amazingly smooth double clutch ;-)
I was actually able to stall the engine a bit the other day when making a right turn at a stop light. It definitely felt like a manual transmission at that time.
