It shouldn't be a problem for *most* tracks, as long as you keep the roof up.

Most clubs or tracks require at least a roll bar on a cab.

Depending on which rules you are racing with, the 911's automatic roll over protection will apply. New rules may/may not allow for this. Your 911 (post 996) already has rollover protection.

whether it is permitted or not is not the question....should it be permitted is the question...two guys were killed in a roll over at Buttonwillow in a 996 cab with the so called built in rollover protection...its your neck

Yes this is more the point. Highly agree. If you really want to track your car, then get a solid roof.

Mixed bag here -- some events require SCCA approved roll bars, while others are OK with convertibles that have factory roll over systems. Whether you're OK with it is another matter to think about. There are other variations too -- I know of one organizer that's OK with factory protection, as long as you don't run R compound tires and are not in the advanced run groups. It's probably best to check with some of the organizers that you're considering running with.

Roll bars are not necessarily all good either. Depending on its location and configuration in your car, it can be more dangerous to have a roll bar when you're driving on the street without a helmet. There's no easy single answer that applies to all.

You are not understanding. What about using the attachable Porsche hardtop? Would that work in allowing the car to run at the track? If so, a very simple solution.

Although I don't have all the facts, I have seen the "hard top" that goes over the cab and I do not think it offer the same structural protection of the coupe.

Of course it is not the same structure as a real coupe. But does it get the car on the track? It is certainly better than the rag top over your head.
