Exhausts - EP1 vs. Custom

Well, I picked up my 07 997tt yesterday and I have the cash left from the mods off my last car burning a hole in my pocket. I decided that my first mod will need to be an exhaust. After having read over close to 100 threads on here about exhaust, I decided that the europipe 1 best meets my needs with lower, better exhaust note quality while still retaining Porsche refinement. Add on top of that a very strong resale market and it’s really a great option even considering it’s a little more than others.

The only thing that’s stopping me is that I live in Chicago and very close to 911tuning and the mad scientist Markski. I know his systems produce serious power and the quality of work is top knock. However, while being the go to guy in the 996 platform, their products aren’t as widely discussed here in the 997 forums. I was wondering why that was? Just a more active presence there and less focus for the 997.<O</O

Marek designed an exhaust for me to replace the 100cell Ruf exhaust from my conversion. His skills in fabrication are top notch. His knowledge is endless. And he is a friend and Porsche enthusiast. It's hard to beat that combination.

Marek built a mufflered cross flow exhaust with 3" tubing and 100 cell cats and dual tips. The sound was magnificent.

Stef builds an exceptional exhaust as well - and offers 100 cell cats that do not ECU tuning to shut off CELs. You won't go wrong with either exhaust.

Get a set of 18 inch track tires, get your suspension dialed in and do some advanced drive schools if you have not done that. Money better spent that way . WAY BETTER!!!

I don’t plan on tracking the car, so I feel the track tires and suspension is more than I need for my daily driver. Also, my brother gives track lessons, so I will just get those free. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

If you live next to 911tuning consider yourself lucky to have such a quality shop and dedicated owner like Mark at your doorstep. You should stop by and listen to his exhausts. It's rare have someone like Mark who will provide you with 24/7 support whenever you need it. That alone is worth it. Support your local tuner.

After a bit of ownership, I get why this engine has been compared to sounding like god's vacuum. Will a new exhaust change that sound and how?

So, I went and listened to 911tunings custom exhaust, and its night and day better than stock. It really displayed how lacking the stock exhaust note is.

That being said, I didnt absolutely love it. It made the engine sound a lot more refined and exotic, but maybe the gt3 like sound isnt for me. Whats the best way to describe how the the europipe is different sounding than the cross pipe patterns of the other exhausts?

I just got back from hearing the europipe exhaust and when he reved it while I was outside of it, I literally had a fight or flight reaction. My hands got sweaty and my heart rate jumped. One guy posted that it reminded him of the sound of a lion roaring and I now know what he was talking about.
