New Daily Driver: M5 vs S6

Need to add a new daily driver. It's down to the 2013 Audi S6 or the 2013 M5. Unfortunately, I have to pass on the Panamera TT due to cost.

Since I would be ordering either without the ability to test drive I wanted to get some thoughts.

S6 +'s
- AWD
- 20k less expensive
- Audi fit and finish

M5 +'s
- Way more power

If you don't need AWD for any reason then do the M5.

Are you leasing or buying? M5 should have better resale value and RWD is more sporting, even in large sedan.

I would be a bit worried owning one of these latest cars without a warranty. Have you looked into the CLS?

They can all be chipped

I have looked into the CLS63. Definitely nice. But I have already had 3 AMG's so I wanted something different.

Sounds like the M5 is the hands down favorite Probably do Euro Delivery.

BMW for performance either will get you from point a to b with a big smile. The s6 is more of an all weather vehicle. Not sure if you deal with any snow where you are? Both are costly to maintain outside of warranty.

I've been thinking about these 2 as well .. I've have owned 3 M series cars and 3 Audis .. the M5 (I know this is not a factor) does chug more gas and my E39 M5 was one of my favorite cars of all time .. I like the S6/AWD combo .. for me, the S6 is more of the DD .. I have '12 Cayman S Black Edition and a '12 S4 .. I'd love to upgrade to '13 911 TT (when it comes out) and a '13 S6 for my DD .. let us know which one you pick!

For a DD, I would find the S6 more than sufficient. Then I'd have a blast spending the 20 grand that I saved.

I know the S6 is the more practical choice with AWD here in New England. I have been impressed with my friends A8 in terms of comfort and all weather performance.

I just wish I could drive these cars and really be able to evaluate them. I do like Audi's and have been unimpressed with BMW's since my E39 M5. I owned a 2009 M3 which I sold after having for 6 months and spent a lot of seat time in the V10 M5 which I found a pain unless I was on it hard all the time.

I am also torn in buying any car new. I know if I wait a year I can save tons of $$$ buying used.

I'd be leaning more towards the S6 for the NorthEast area due to occasional snowfall. The audi interior is wonderful as well.

M5 will have the edge in terms of performance (we all know that) but at the sacrifice of exclusivity in comparision to the S6. Then again, I may be a little partial to the Audi/Porsche family.

The Car and Driver article was interesting. Not sure I really agree with their conclusion. LOL.

No doubt the S6 is a nice car. Especially for the North East. Saving 20k is a nice bonus and I'm sure after ECU tune it will be plenty fast for a DD. Just love me those new M5's though

I know it's not directly on topic but could you elaborate on your reasons for ditching the M3 and not liking the M5 unless wringing its neck? I just drove both of these cars today for "research" purposes and found it quite interesting.
