I bet the spark plug anti fouler trick would work to solve the post cat CEL problem. Anyone try it?

the classic hack: http://www.midatlanticsentras.com/fo...php?f=49&t=967

right angle versions: http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/angled-cel-fix.html http://www.speed-element.com/servlet...cel-fix/Detail

There have been many reports of post cat sensor CEL's on this forum covering many brands of exhausts. Speedtech, Tubi, Fabspeed, Cargraphic as an example. Not one for the Europipe.

Clearly (and assuming your post cat oxygen sensors have not been adjusted to compensate for the exhaust) there can be some that are just fine, as with all the other brands mentioned above as well. However, I was informed Cargraphic have made revisions during production to the cat, something to do with the metal coatings on the cat material. In addition I believe its Fabspeed that made some changes to the cat (HJS) to cure CEL issues and were taking care of customers who had such issues.

Finally I do recall a difference between 2007 and 2008 in regards to sensitivity of the post cat sensor and its tripping of CEL codes (2008 being more sensitive).

You will also find most of the CELs can be fixed using bung extensions and when you look at the design of the europipe and the post cat sensor location it all makes sense why it doesnt trigger an issue where others do in the first place.

I don't know about "many," but at least we could agree that it is not "most" right?

My car is a 2008 - so car's sensitivity is not the problem either. There seem to have been a lot of speculations: most brands have problem with CEL, GIAC turning down the post cat sensor, my car didn't have enough mileage, 2008 triggering CEL more readily. I would think the problem may or may not be related to any of the above. It could simply be the cat got cooked by the tune running rich, no?

My main point is that *if* the implication is that most other exhausts will have CEL problem, so pick EP because it never does, it is neither accurate or good advice. There are multiple criteria and if for example someone wants a louder exhaust, EP might not be loud enough and shouldn't be the choice. It's an excellent exhaust but it is not "the best" nor the only choice.

There have been reports of instant cel's day after install posted on 6 speed from an exhaust. Just search for exhaust cel and you will find tons of data on the subject and owner experiences in addition to exhaust maker comments and fixes.

I've yet to find one cooked exhaust or too rich a tune cause of the post cat cel.

I'm 100% recommending ep1 for no cel hassles as I've been on the other end of chasing down the cel with maf swaps, plug changes etc. and it's not fun.

If your tuned, go with any exhaust you want so long as sensors are taken care of. But not everyone is tuned and the chance of a cel is very real as reported on here since the first 2007's were being modded.

Running rich is one of the most common causes of catalytic converter damage and CEL. A tune that runs rich and allows unburned fuel to reach the cat will cook the cat. Please ask any tuner on this forum, even a Wikipedia search will do. The tune you had in your car could very well cause damage to the cat and/or triggers CEL if it runs rich.

Regarding the sensors, again, unless customer requests it, there is no evidence that any tuner on this forum turns off the post cat sensor. If your ECU tune requires you to turn off the post cat sensor, there could be something wrong and this *may* have been the damage you had.
Enjoy your exhaust and recommend it, I have no problem with this, but... there is no need to put down other brands (most except "brand A" will trigger CEL, etc.) based on un-supported speculations.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalytic_converter#Damage
Any condition that causes abnormally high levels of unburned hydrocarbons—raw or partially burnt fuel—to reach the converter will tend to significantly elevate its temperature, bringing the risk of a meltdown of the substrate and resultant catalytic deactivation and severe exhaust restriction. Vehicles equipped with OBD-II diagnostic systems are designed to alert the driver to a misfire condition by means of flashing the "check engine" light on the dashboard.

So I now have the car and I must say.. it really does sound pretty unsports car like.

Spoken to Vivid racing regarding a 200cel sports cat system and the Agency Power titanium tips (basically straight pipes from the cats with titanium tips)

Apparently Agency Power have never actually made one even though they advertise it on Vidis website. Interested in thoughts as the price is really unbeatable compared to the 4K exhaust systems people are talking about.

The main systems people go for have been mentioned i.e. Cargraphic, FVD/m-m racing, Europipe.

Then I would say Tubi and Fabspeed, GMG.

I have had a Europipe on my 996tt and loved it.

I have had a Tubi and was not very happy with it!

I have had an FVD with titanium tips and 200cel cat and loved it.

Now I have an FVD with no cats and a slightly quieter muffler and I feel I have found the perfect system for me.

Since you are in London I am happy to meet you and let you hear it.

"there is no such thing as a free lunch"...
"what sounds too good to be true, usually is"

Not saying it in a sarcky way, just as a fact of life...
Do listen to some of the more expensive systems and I think the difference will be justified...

Choosing the right exhaust is a real challange. Especially on 911 turbo. The factory sound dosen t make the car justice.

You can make the turbo sound really good. Whithout drone and whithout that loud tractor sound that most aftermarket exhaust have.

Here is a sound clip for Kline Innovation exhaust. I will make a presentation topic about our exhaust this week.
