Finally joining the party!!
Greetings all,
After about 1.5yrs of being sports car-less, I'm stepping back into the game and figured it was time to go big or go home: enter my 2007 Turbo.
Although I "grew up" on american muscle...first car was a '68 Mustang Fastback which my dad and I restored together, I've taken what I would imagine is a similar path that most of you have: graduated to corvette (C5 - Cam, LT Headers) then to M3 (E46 Vert) which I sold so we could buy our townhouse (and secretly upgrade to a new sports car
).
Now that my wife has finished her residency and is part of the way though her Chief Year, she gave me the green light to "start" looking at cars. I'm a car guy vs. a die hard for a specific brand and am eager to experience what each various performance platform has to offer (i.e. - Car ADD) so I've been obsessing over what to by next for the last year (glad I finally wore her down after spending way too much too much time talking about what I wanted next)
I had it narrowed down between at C6 Z06 and the 997TT...in the end it came down to an emotional decision to give into the feeling that I really wanted a Porsche and had already "had" a corvette (wife's argument but I'll get to that). Suddenly I found "the" car and threw out "Want to come test drive a car with me this weekend? I'll be a nice drive and then we'll go to dinner afterwards". I must preface that my wife happens to be a car girl...I qualify that to say that she brought her own car ramps into our relationship so that she could change the oil in own car and the requirement when we move out of the townhouse is that the garage MUST have enough room to put a lift so she can work on her own car - she currently has a 350z that she got to celebrate her graduation from Med School...yes I count myself VERY lucky!!
What could continue to be a long story, I'll cut to the chase...test drove (drove the 997TT and a 997.2 S) night and day difference and it was clear that the turbo was for me. My wife agreed that it was much more 'Muscular" and when I asked her what she thought she responded: "Save the Z06 for your midlife crisis and get the Turbo. Ohh, and you better get another set of tires and rims for the track because I don't want you to ruin these new tires on the track...did I mention I love this woman
)
I closed that deal that day and got an excellent deal on a CPO car with only 18k miles (and clean DME) which is nearly identical to how I would have spec'd it from the factory myself :
Meteor Grey Metallic - 18k miles/CPO
6 Speed
Motorola Bluetooth system
K40 Built in Radar system
461 - Rod Antenna
XSX - Seat Belts - Guards Red
XPA - Thicker Steering Wheel-Leather
XCZ - Sport Shifter
P01 - Adaptive Sport Seats
640 - Sport Chrono Package Turbo
342 - Heated Front Seats
220 - Axle-Differential Lock Rear
810 - Floor Mats - Interior Color
DME:
Range 1 - 4739 (487hrs)
Range 2 - 275 (476hrs)
Range 3 - 4 (214hrs)
Range 4-6: 0
This was my 30th Birthday present and although I have worked extremely hard thus far in my career (since people always are curious: medical device industry - Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Marketing/Sales Management) I count myself blessed and am intent on enjoying every moment with this car - she was bought to be driven and not hibernate in the garage.
Here's a few pics:

I've already put over 1600 miles on her in the month that I've owned her. I'm always learning every time I'm on the forum and look forward to joining you guys in the fun!

welcome! i too am new here and had a very similar experience with my wife! too funny. Except she's a CPA and not a doc. For me it was about tax deductions, making the numbers work, etc etc. She would have rather I get an F430 but thats out of the price range for now. Maybe an F car in the future.
I too was like, 'hey, wanna go on a test drive and then we can spend the day shopping and hanging out after' hahah

I had a meteor gray metallic Targa 4S & Oh man, do I miss that car.
Super awesome Turbo. I wish you many hours of enjoyment driving that!

Congrats on the new purchase, that's a superb looking car and great story. If your planning on tracking the car I would suggest some H&R sway bars. Any future modification plans as of yet ?
Thanks guys! This forum has been a wealth of knowledge and I look forward to greater interaction in the future.
Although I'm dying to get an exhaust/tune to really exploit the potential of this platform, i'm going to hold tight for the next 2 years as the car is CPO and i'm intending to keep her for a while.
Just gives me the next two years to plan for the "perfect" upgrades once the CPO expires
