997 Turbo adding a GT2 kit?

What are the thoughts on this?

I can get my hands on a full GT2 kit OEM parts for about $4000 and was wondering if it was worth getting it put on my 997 Turbo?

One side of me is tempted for the look the other side hates people pretending they have something that they dont.

I'm not a fan of people putting AMG or M badges on their car if its not original... Am I in danger of doing the same?

I think it depends on which parts you are getting. I don't see anything "pretender" about GT2 performance upgrades. Granted, I think you've leaped over that line if you put a GT2 badge on your TT.

Eh, I could see it either way. Certainly stay away from the GT2 badging.

I would try to do something to set it apart from a standard GT2. As far as badging, I'd stay away from that. Especially if you end up a meet. Personally, if I had the GT2 kit and big power I'd call it something like a "911GT R" or something like that. That's if you absolutely must have a badge. I'm a badge delete kind of guy. Keeps em guessing

You are missing a zero and then some for installation, painting body parts, tax and shipping.

I think the only non-trivial OEM GT2 part by itself under $4000 might be the side skirts. Anyone else a little puzzled or am I completely off the mark?

It really all depends on what exactly you're getting in this "full GT2 kit." There are a ton of differences between the two cars. Please list out exactly what is coming in this "kit." Are we talking engine, suspension, and/or exterior panels? Interior appearance bits? Need much more info about what's included before anybody can help!

Also, where are you getting it from? Private seller, dealer, etc? Is it somebody you know and trust? How many miles are on the parts?

Lastly, what is your goal for the car? Do you just want more power? Better handling? Both? Are these changes going to be made mainly for street use, track use, or a blend of both?

If you look at a 996 Turbo (like mine), you can get select GT2 parts on it from the factory as part of the X50 package (turbos, intercoolers, remapped ECU, slightly different exhaust). That was an $18k option from the factory and is highly desirable. However, just as with a 997, to mod the car yourself to similar specs is far cheaper by buying non-OEM parts.

I thought GT2 parts provide better aerodynamics, so what is pretend about that?

Its a private sale for the front bumper / rear bumper and the rear declid with the GT2 wing. All currently painted white so would need to colour change it to meteor grey and fit.

I was considering the Vorsteiner but if I can manage this for 50% less Id probably go for it..

GT2 parts would provide different aerodynamics, but not necessarily better. The GT2 aero was designed for a 2WD car while the TT aero was designed for a 4WD car - both cars have rated top speeds in the 190's so again not sure one is better than the other...unless it's the aesthetics that make it better.

The GT 2 wing creates more downforce and you must use the front lip with this wing. On the other hand you loose top speed compared to my wing.

In my opinion the GT2 Kit has only one function: To show everybody that you paid significant more to get the Turbo 3.6. Still it remains only a Turbo without 4 wheel drive.

If it's for the real OEM parts & i would verify this with part # & did you see the actual GT2 that they came off, especially the wing which is $13k new as this is the one part nobody buys OEM as there are good quality knock offs for $$3500 i would get it ,no matter what if it is OEM as you you could always sell it for profit towards your Vorsteiner kit,but i would really verify these are OEM as $4K would be about right for the knock off stuff figuring 50 cents on the dollar for used stuff. Also wondering about exhaust mods with the bumper maybe, sounds like it's not for you after all so send em my way
