6 speed or Tiptronic?
Driver quality is a big deal here, the magazines may well be granny shifting for their times. For consistency and ease of use though nothing beats an automatic at the drag strip. In your case it's probably PDK > Tip > 6spd assuming you could get the PDK to hold the power.
Ya sounds about rite . Your in my neck of the woods i dont see many Turbos around DFW
Some very constructive feedback to your questions. I believe the mod's comments (BBYU) state it accurately and tell the story about the tip and it's potential.
Whether one likes to drive an auto or manual is simply preference. Fact is the tip setup in the turbo is excellent on both street and track. Porsche evolved to PDK, which is great too, but that doesn't mean the tip isn't still a great ride.
Give the folks a Switzer a call and ask about what they've achieved with tip turbos...some of the quickest turbos out there period.
You'll find your need for speed will only be limited by budget vs. capability of the turbo. Both the tip and manual need to be upgraded to handle significant power upgrades.
All that said, there are some on here with tips who've done ECU and TCU tunes only and run in the mid 10's on stock tires (e.g. CAMDEN). Yet to see someone with a manual who's installed a new clutch and tune only achieve the same result.
As for fun factor...to each their own. The car is so darn fast there is something to be said for having the ability to keep both hands on the wheel with eyes forward. IMO that actually enahnces the experience on the street where most of the driving takes place. Never mind the convienence of traffice, etc.
Have fun test driving both!

If both are stock yes, however, if modified you can pump a lot more power/torque through the manual gearbox than the tiptronic, hence, faster trap speed and/or top speed.
I have the TIP with Champion modified 68MM Turbos, IPD Plenum and Y-Tube, throttle body, GT2.2 Intercoolers, GMG headers, AWE exhaust and GIAC mapping for both the ECU and TIP. I have not run the 1/4 yet, but did run the Shift S3ctor 1/2 mile at Coalinga in Nov. The closest run I had was against another 997.1 with similar upgrades. He stated he had 685hp at the wheels. We started the roll at approx 30mph, I did not have any wheel spin, he did, so I took him from the start. I kept the lead and believe I was slowly extending it through the traps. No TIP slipping, but have been told that strengthening the TIP is the next move. I am uncertain as yet about changing out the torque converter. I read that the change may make the car more difficult to drive in stop/start daily driving but dramatically improves the launch (which you would want if the 1/4 mile is your main goal) mine is a daily driver. I do NOT miss the manual, each individual has their own preferences.
Also, if/when the TIP is strengthened I will change out my air intake inlets and more than likely change out the Intercoolers and exhaust.

I would love to know what 60-130 times you get with stock Tiptronic and 68mm VTG's on pump gas.
Sorry about my ignorance.... What is a Vbox?
Shift S3ctor didn't have any electronic monitoring, so I don't know what the times were. I trapped the 1/2 at 159mph.
Hopefully there will be electronic monitoring at the next event.

If I wanted a 6 I wouldnt get a turbo I would get a GT3. The TT is a supercar daily driver. Its a car you are supposed to want to drive every day. A gear rower to me is a weekend fun car. Like a 356 or a 930 type that you just take out for a drive no radio just the wind the road.
can you slap more power on a 6? Sure but the first 5k is going to get you just close to the stock tip. Making up seconds isnt cheap or easy.
