What is this?

I noticed that the gasket was a bit wet. Also, noticed a bit of oil surrounding that area. Anyone? This is a 997.1 Turbo.

Thanks!
Angel

Are you sure it's oil? Looks like the water pump housing.

The photo above is the connector piece to the water pump housing. It does not appear to be leaking. But there is oil around that area - it may be coated with oil running down from elsewhere?

I had a leak in my new (to me) 997TT and it was ending up in the same basic spot. Its at EVOMS right now. Turns out it was the chain housing seal. BIG job to fix. Obviously motor out. I did decide new plugs, fuel filter, and welded coolant fittings were in order as l9ng as the motor was just sittting there.
Here is what mine looked like... On the brighter side...at least your under body is clean...mine looks like it spent its whole life driving in the Seattle.....

Looks like you even had oil on the crankcase. Most crankcases don't have a layer of film on them like that.
Chain housing seal, I don't like the sound of that one...

Dang....I hope my issue is more mild than that. I don't have a leak just the gasket is moist. Gonna try to get that gasket replaced and see what happens. Wish me luck!!!!!
