John B is infamous around these parts
It turns out the junior technician didn't use the right computer. When presented with the option of transporting the car to the nearest dealer, who confirmed they had just done an over rev report yesterday, the senior technician got involved and I got my report. It was fine, no category 4, 5 or 6 over revs. So FINALLY the deal is done!

Thanks for the good input. You guys were right on the money!

[QUOTE=jr429;3769839]what's an over rev report?[/QUOTE
The way I understand it is like, trying to find out if she is still a virgin. Who gives a ****, someone already banged the living lights out of her anyway. So I just keep doing it even harder and in the backdoor. Why would you want that info anyway? No offense to anyone just an anology.

To continue with your Analogy, and answer your question.....It would be to see if one of the previous bangs got her pregnant or gave her a STD...That you will ultimately have to deal with

At 60k for a new engine I think I'll spend the extra 60 seconds going over a DME report during a PPI.

You mean previous bf (owner). Over rev's are overrated. That's just going to happen it's all I am saying. If it still runs after it happened, it's ok. You want a pristine car, buy a new Unmolested car.

Funny but also accurate. It's worth it to get the report to any person looking to buy the car as it will help you differentiate between a clearly thrashed car and one that was driven by a normal enthusiast. I am sure that none of us would intentionally choose a thrashed car if we had the information to avoid it.

Dont these cars have a rev limiter? Is this an issue for 'tuned' cars only? Can they check revs after a testdrive?

Yes they do but what concerns others are the downshifts from high gear to low gear. "Money shift". I have a Durametric pro and can see the data. Although, I particularly don't believe in the extraction of data via Durametric tool vs PIWIS methodology. It has been talked about and written on numerous forums. In other words, if the data is not obtained from Porsche PIWIS then it's not trustworthy.

I tell you what, porsche guys are the only guys who talk so much about over revving. Why are the pca boys soo anxious to downshift to early?
Its not like they have some super wide ratio box where you'd be taken by surprise...

Yes, there is lots of technology to prevent the car from over revving. The issue is that the technology cannot prevent a driver from jamming it into a low gear at high RPM's and causing damage before the systems can shut it down.

So this would primarily be relevant on Manual cars...Where the user/driver causes the issue. The Tip won't let you do any of that...
