Just drove a TIP for the first time.
Just drove a TIP for the first time.
I decided on a 2009 year for my purchase. Today I drove my first one (911 Turbo) ever, and it was a TIP with the Sports Chrono. It drove excellent. I did not launch it. However, I did give it a go and the car makes a really nice amount of power and the shifts are decent for a factory car, it was stock.
The 6-Speed is calling my name
that'll be my next test drive. The car was cream with a blood colored interior. I take some pics next test drive I go on.
That was the first 997.1 I have drove. Oh and...I loved it. It had the THICKER wrapped steering wheel, that was a really nice feel.

Agree. I recently got to ride in one of the greek members tip and was quite impressed the way it drove in sporty driving situations. Not saying i'd swap my manual but the tip is actually pretty good.
Here is the Ebay link. The color combo was perfect for Valentines day. lol

Hey Steve,
The reason I chose the 2009 is because of 2 reasons.
Reason #1) The 2009 is the last year for the GT1 based engine. And the GT1 has been proven over time and it is VERY strong from the factory and can handle 800 Horsepower or more. Also Metzger (an engine manufacturer) built the GT1 engines for Porsche. Metzger is legendary to Porsche heritage. In 2010 Porsche changed engine manufactures. So again, 2009 was the last year for the Metzger built engine.
Reason #2) In 2009 they updated the interior. It looks better than the 2008 interior.
So, the excellent Metzger power plant with the best looking interior, to sum it up quickly.
P.S. This is to the best of my knowledge. I am just looking into all of this. Thanks.

The 2009 is also equipped with PCM 3.0 vs. 2.1. My Cayenne has 3.0, it's a HUGE improvement. IMO, the 2009 997.1 is the best to own, mod, and keep for a very long time. I will upgrade to a 2009 in a year or two.
Great info that I did not know.

Thanks for further explaining your shopping/buying rationale. I am definitely familiar with the Hans Mezger engine as of course I have one of his masterpieces in the back of my 996TT.

He happened to build championship winning Formula One engines too...the man was clearly a top notch engineer. http://porschebahn.wordpress.com/200...tone-birthday/
Regarding the interior, aside from the upgrade to PCM 3.0, can you tell me what other noticeable interior improvements were made? Thanks, and best wishes!
. I did not look over the PCM stuff. This is good information. Thanks for the input.

With a bit of luck and optimism, perhaps the 09s will fall into my price range before I pull the trigger! Although I cannot say that PCM 3.0 would be a deal breaker for me, I have to admit that having the last year of the Mezger (in the 'standard' TT model) engine would be pretty awesome.
