New owner of 2007 997 turbo - any advice on what to do? Pitfalls to avoid?

Hi,

Apologies in advance if this is annoying. This is my first sportscar and I am completely overwhelmed. Was wondering if anyone could offer a newbie some tips on what to do/ what not to do. My first order of business was scraping the lip! Read up on driving in at an angle afterward. Just wondering what to do when dealing with car parks in NYC if anyone has any experience? What to do for gas?

Any other common problems or pitfalls to avoid? Anything cool to do that people overlook?

Was also thinking of getting radar and laser jammer, saw someone recommended ai design for the install. Has anyone used them?

Again sorry these questions are so naive.

Hi
I have had my 07 for a year; i lived with it for a bit and have trolled these forums and others for ideas. Inside - you can add Dension for BT/Ipod, can add sirus or more if you rip out the PCM. Outside - i added a new lip and screen for the radiators to avoid stone damage. ECU/ exhaust mods are also popular. So many options !
You will get comfortable with this car over time

Here is what you do:

Scrape the **** out of your lip and just buy a new one from Suncoast for $150 once a year.

If you have a place to store it, buy two. Keep one in the queue so you can always swap it when you feel it is time.

Passport 9500ix for radar. I have yet to go the jammer route. Just got mine hard-wired to the overhead dome light. DIY for that is easy to find.

Dension for bluetooth/ipod or try the most-hur997 route with an aftermarket head unit.

LED interior lighting kits are neat and inexpensive.

First congrats on the beast.

I picked up my 997 TT end of last summer and spent several months researching mods.

I highly recommend finding someone in your area with a tune and exhaust setup. Compare it to your stock car and you'll be blown away at how the sound, power and feel of the car are improved. IMO these are the first two mods you should consider, and they are the best bang for your buck in terms of performance mods. They will release the monster under your hood!

I do this also...you haven't been scrapping your lip often enough - cost at Suncoast is now $199 + shipping

Guys thanks for the advice. Going to get online now and buy a couple of spare lips as per your recommendations. I got lucky on this car as it was modified by shark werks on the west coast by the original owner. It sounds incredible just as you have described. Looks like the passport is a the route to go on radar/laser. Many thanks again guys. What a wonderful community it is here.

Ok buddy I'm throwing a yellow flag. You can't drop phrases like "modified by sharkwerks" and not share details

We need full 360 degree pics and a complete list of mods from the shark tank
Don't be a tease we are junkies over here, let's get the pics and details or as they say it didn't happen

There are several great shops in NY/LI. I purchased a 2009 Turbo Cab last summer and went through the same search. I wanted everything hidden so that narrowed it down to the 9500 ci or stealth v1. The best shops for this type of work are AI in Tuckahoe (Westchester), Technik 1 in Manhattan (west 48th), or Detailing Dynamics in Mineola. You can't go wrong with any of these. They all will not be cheap if integrated and hidden radar/laser is what you are after. I've had my cars at both DD (Mattt and Eddie are great) and Technik 1 (Gus is top notch).

In the end, i went with the hidden V1 install with the display in the rear view mirror, along with Blinder 905 laser jammers in the front grills and rear. Gus at Technik 1 did a great job. He'll probably see my cab again this spring once it comes out of storage as i think I am going to have him install a Europipe stage 1 exhaust. I live in Westchester and work in Manhattan so it's easy to drop off/pick up. I believe other guys on this board have also had Gus do this install.

Best of luck with your new ride,
Frank

This is your first sports car??? Well, you went whole hog. My advice is to be careful. That car is a rocket - don't underestimate what is going to happen when you put down the pedal and the boost kicks in. You will find yourself under the bumper in front of you in no time!
Those 20's are going to have a tough life in the city... no two ways about it.

They don't mention any suspension work, which is a little odd. The car looks lowered. A stock car will scrape, so there is no way around it. There is a little benefit by turning on the PASM "sport" button for the shocks. If the shocks are stiffer, the body will roll a little less going into driveways improving the clearance slightly.

Enjoy it, that thing has like $20k in options!

Ha -- you guys got me. My username is an ode to Giggs. What an incredible player he is.

Just got the car delivered late last night. Here is a picture in the garage before it was delivered to me. Will upload some new photos once I get it out of my garage and into the driveway after this storm passes. I promise.

Yeah this is my first sportscar. Unreal I know. I am very very lucky. I will be very careful getting adjusted to using it. When I was a lot younger I raced cars (single seater stuff). But that was a long long time ago at this stage. And being on the road is very different to the track for sure.

Thanks for the tip PASM sport mode. will give that a try.

Has anyone gone to Auto Designs N.Y.C on 10th Ave?
