It's the emotions that surround these silly oily filters. I guess when someone parts with 150 bucks for something they have to continually screw around with....well,.. it's just gotta be doing something I mean please make it do something..lol. Ahhh...it's all part of being a motoring enthusiast

 

You could turn around and say "Ask Ruf why they put cotton elements in all their vehicles from the simple ECU conversion to the 3.8L RT12S." Realistically, it would be nice to see the comparison that I mentioned.

 

Not sure how this is different with road car setups - the GT2 sucks air via the two ducts under the wing, channels through into a rubber sealed airbox. It's bringing in fresh air from directed flow under the wings outside of the engine bay.

 

Me too. The only evidence i've seen to date basically confirms they do zip.....oh hang on....it gives one something to do on a rainy day. An enthusiast does likes to tinker.....just sometimes that tinkering creates more problems than it solves lol.

 

Again show me the data. Like the GTRs 4.0 the ruf is another car that leaves nothing on the table for the AM....even down to the go fast racing stripes. They know their customer likes this stuff....so why leave anything for anyone else regardless of whether it does anything or not.

All modern day Porsches of late have the same type of set up. Porsche is focused on producing good outcomes in this area of weakness. I cringe when i see cones in mud guards and/or engine bays sucking hot contaminated air from an unsealed area outside of the airstream which flows over the top of the car. Again, ok if its a race car that's sponsored or subsidised....i mean whats another engine or engine build amongst friends.

But a street car? The gains would need to be massive...

 

 

without anyone having established this debate is anything more than an academic pursuit, ( replete with sketchy, if not purely anecdotal *evidence*(?) that oiled vs stock actually MATTER in terms of significant or even measurabale gains, i'm just glad my impending *upgrade* from the 996t platform to the vaunted 997t, will enable me to make many of the same kinds of circular arguments and assertions, without the previously required "learning" curve in other words, i'm sure i'll learn more. but possibly not much in the area of air filtration

now you're talkin'. i believe that may be good for some genuine and measurable gains. cone filters don't bother me at all. my next engine mod if i keep 'er.

 

I put a bmc on mine, mainly bc my stock was dirty.

 

I also had oiled up MAF sensors after months of fitment. Porsche would not warrant the new sensors due to the filter. I had to source Bosch OEM parts and fit myself to keep the cost down to $500 to fix. So a filter install that gives you no power and negligible sound improvement cost me $650. Hhhmm! Sounds like a good idea to me.

 

Why didn't you just clean the MAF?

 

Someone over-oiled your filter. I've been using BMC for 6+ years never any MAF problems.
