A dual mass flywheel shouldn't rattle, but I have no personal experience with these.

When I bought my car it had the Stage 3 Clutchmaster w/ LWFW. It rattled pretty badly at idle and lower RPM accelerations. Now, I have the Sachs 2.5 w/ LWFW (couldn't stand the clutch engagement of the Clutchmasters). Thing rattles at idle and during lower RPM accelerations as well. My car just went back together a month ago and it's back in the shop again now because I want the OEM flywheel. I've had enough of the noises. I wish I had changed it out a month ago - I hate paying twice for the same labor...

Hello All!

Just wanted to add to the conversation.

We use the 098 unsprung disc with the 764 cover in our "Stg 2.5" kit. The OEM flywheel has enough "cushion" so the pedal feel is just like stock since the 098 disc has no springs. It also does not rattle. It is by far the most popular set up we sell.

If you choose to use the single mass LWFW we sell, you will hear gear chatter at idle and also when you lug the motor. An example of lugging would be by driving at low rpm/high load. You can duplicate this by coming to a stop sign, not coming to a complete stop, but put it in 2nd and then accelerating from a very low speed.

It's noisy and not for everyone, but there are some nice performance gains. Heel/Toe is easier as the engine will rev and fall more freely.

Hope that helps. I have a ton of experience with these, so shoot me an email if you have specific questions.

I bought my Stage 2.5 from AWE. He speaks the truth here. I wish I had had a ride with someone with a LWFW before my purchase. OEM flywheel would have been better for me since I rarely track the car.

A LWFW was recommended for my Sachs 2.5 and I post here before going ahead with it. The overwhelming response was NOT to do it because of the noise/chatter, esp if going to be a street car. Glad I didn't..

I had a lwfw in my 996tt and now have the sachs 2.5 w/ lwfw in my 997tt. Doesnt bug me one bit. Then again performance takes precedence over comfort for me..

I've read different experiences with the LWFW. Some were saying that the rattle was very minimal. That's why I chose to do it. Mine is definitely not minimal. Sometimes it isn't too bad. Other times it sounds like the car is falling apart. Sounds terrible from outside the car too... Anyway, I think the point is that the LWFW isn't for everyone

I'll have to track down a local car to see if it's as bad as you guys say before I do mine. I've had LWFW's in my previous cars and yes they rattle at idle and yes they rattle if you lug the motor, but I'd never say they were as loud as some of you are making it out to be.

Might be different worlds though. I like loud exhausts and solid mounts. I feel a lot of Turbo owners are looking for more of a SL65 type of ride.

I've had a track prepped supercharged RS America with solid motor mounts, bushings, not much of a muffler, etc. It had a 964 RS LWFW and didn't rattle nearly as much. My 993 C4S also had a 964 RS LWFW that rattled only at idle. The turbo with the 964 RS LWFW was a completely different story. I can only imagine what the GT3RS LWFW is like... Trust me, I'm no SL65 lover, I like louder cars.

I wanted to keep it and switched to Liqui Moly 75W 90 fluid, but it didn't help. So I ditched it and am back with a DMF.

Sounds like it may actually just be that obnoxious then. Will definitely have to try and hear it for myself.
