997.1 TT Smoking on startup
Start it, run for 30 seconds then shutdown. Come back in 2 hours and start and see if you don't get a puff. That's usually when it happens with mine.
Hehehe. Next time I wash her Ill try that and report back...thats the only time I can imagine that exact scenario.
Hrrrrm...Iv never done exactly that. I always try to drive my car long enough for things to hit operating temperature. ....even if that means taking the long way to the gym.

3100 miles on the car.
How's the oil?
Has the oil ever been changed? New engines really load the oil with unburned gas and water (and a lot of trash). The unburned gas and water make the oil more fluid and more likely to foam and create more oil vapor which can make it past the AOS and wet the intakes and a bit of smoke upon start up is possible.
Best thing you can do for a new engine is change the oil early. Gets rid of the unburned gas/water build up, along with vary nasty oil and a very dirty filter.
Anyhow, as long as the engine doesn't smoke every start, and smoking doesn't last a long time, and the engine in other ways doesn't act up I think you've probably nothing to worry about.
Probably.
I have to point out the engine (car) is still quite new based on miles and there can be a "new car" problem and this problem could get worse over time, read miles.
So do what you can to eliminate the obvious causes of this smoking: change the oil/filter as necessary; do not over fill the engine with oil; give the engine some idling time to cool down after a trip (my 03 Turbo manual calls for 2 minutes of idling); and pay attention. If the smoking gets worse, if there are any other symptoms, have it looked into pronto.

^ Talisman i honestly feel that there is no AOS isue involved here. If it was you would have signs of oil residue in the manifold or around the throttle body. I recall checking mine at the time and it was as dry as a bone....still is for that matter. It is as simple as a bit of residual fuel leak off....even my Porsche techs are now saying that. What causes it i can't say...nor can they. Could be anything from a bit of crap under an injector seat that clears at a later stage...who knows. Bottom line is it's nothing sinister. I recall when my car first did it and it had just ticked over 3000kms from new. Problem went away...came back...went away..etc...but was always in warm weather. Fwiw at that time I had Porsche do all the checks and inspections under warranty and nothing untoward found. Also, oddly enough mine hasn't done it in well over 12 months now. I had the y pipe off recently and again it's all as dry as a bone. If you are worried then get Porsche to do the checks but i think you will find everything is perfectly fine. If it's a turbo seal then you should have signs of oil in the induction system....
I've had three GT1 engined cars ('02 996TT, '07 GT3, '08 Ruf RT12) and they all did it once in awhile after sitting. Ironically, the GT3 with a 100% stock engine would do it most often.
