Help please - lost my boost
Help please - lost my boost
Hi all - sorry I know some similar questions have been posted before but I have a question: last week while is was driving in my 09 Turbo (cab with 20K miles and tip), the motor sound / exhaust note suddenly changed to something that sounds more like a lawn mower. The PSI gauge indicated little to no more turbo boost available, nothing I couldn't tell without looking at the instruments at that point. The car drove like a 80 HP car and reved high before switching into a higher gear. No warning light came off whatsoever.
Dealer came back with following feedback: both actuator rods broke down and the entire right side Turbo unit is sitting loose. I can't imagine any shocks to the car that would have caused this issue all over sudden.
Parts are being ordered and they told me I can drive the car meanwhile without causing damage, even though it's driving what you guys refer to limp mode?
Thankfully, the car is CPO and everything will be covered under warranty.
My questions:
1) Is it safe to drive or better not?
2) What would cause both actuators to break down? Seems a bit much coincidence to me
3) I bough the car a few months ago with 18K miles and drove 2K miles with no issues whatsoever. Can I make any inferences as to prior ownership (was the car well taken care of) or other known issues or was that just bad luck?
4) Do i have to watch out for anything post repair?
5) Is this a common issue? I'm afraid of bills when the CPO runs out in 2015.
I'm just a tad concerned whether I'll potentially be running into more issues.
My understanding was the 997 turbo was a really solid machine so is that an exceptional issue?
