Softronic vs. GIAC for 997TT

Looking to do a tune on my 997TT. Anyone got any feedback on either the Softronic or GIAC? Which is better? Pros, Cons etc.???

in my experience for tuning i will go with ether FVD or PROTOMOTIVE , other companies seems good but you need to see in road test like in (UNLIM 500+)

I vote for GIAC, especially it is local to you. I got all mine tuned at their shop and get to meet all of them, bunch of cool guys.

Protomotive. I had Protomotive on my 996tt that I tracked a lot with no issues. Loved it and will get Protomotive on my 997tt in couple of months when CPO is out.

Softronic is a good generic lower cost laptop tune that re-maps basic elements of your ECU software, it is not a custom tune. GIAC re-maps and custom tunes your ECU software but, you have to send it to them and it's more expensive. EVOMS, another tuner is between them both with the same benefits. I've heard of Switzer, FVD, and Protomotive but I'm not familiar with their products.

As noted earlier, there are quite a few tuners to choose from each with their own unique solution. It comes down to who you're the most comfortable with, their solution, overall cost, short and longterm reliability (will not harm your TT), reputation, accessibility (service near your home, distant laptop re-flash), customer service, and product support.

Best advice, search and research the archives here and on Rennlist, educate yourself, visit their website, create a spreadsheet that you can refer to that compares the results benefits, and promises of each tuner, contact each tuner, ask the hard questions i.e., based upon your spreadsheet why is your tune better than X, Y and Z, listen to their answers which should tell you if they're just trying to sell you a tune or, if they really know and understand their product/s, and then make an informed decision that you'll be happy with.

Softronic is not generic( Im not a dealer for them but just telling you the scoop). you want to go with a company that usually specializes in only ONE car... a Porsche vs. a shopping cart of tunes... thats just my opinion... We do our own tuning as well... and yes, we all have different approaches to the tuning method.. some run high boost and lean the car out for fast times.. meanwhile others run safer and you sleep better...
I see some blistering times from tuners that are simply, and I know, unattainable just on a flash, yet they run mid 6s... sure maybe with 17 degrees of timing in midrange and .86 lambda at 100% throttle running 1.5 bars... but is that safe? In my opinion I doubt it... Ive been in this game too long to believe that someone will run 6s 60 to 130 at 1.2 bar on 93 octane like one should safely... more like high 7s....
So choose wisely... and most companies you mentioned are pretty good... including GIAc and Softronic

KD Greta,

Particularly for those in California/Southern Cal, GIAC is a no brainer if you could arrange to have a custom tune at the main GIAC facility on chassis dyno. Read thread in my signature to see what a custom tune involves, why it's better, and why you are getting an absolute bargain , then just PM the GIAC people here.

Love my Evoms580. Ihave EP2 and run 100 oct. I only dislikethat they show a 1200hp turbo on YouTube but currently don’t sell it. I did the 580 upgrade and I now will need a new clutch. To me this is good news as I am now producing more than 600 HP (not sure on the torque.) You will need to look into a new clutch with your ECU change. Think about that cost prior to your ECU change.

My vote will always be for GIAC. They are the only tuner we endorse, and they only one we back with our full Champion Motorsport warranty. THAT'S how much confidence we have in their abilities.

Asking a question like this typically won't yield the answers you are looking for, as most customers simply want to promote what they have. It's natural, we have a desire to justify our purchases.

Since you're local, I invite you to come down to our facilities in Irvine and we'd be happy to discuss all aspects of the software with you. We also offer a 30 day money back guarantee, so you're more than welcome to try another company and then give our software a try to note the improvements.

Advantages to our software:

- On the fly switching between multiple files
- Clear upgrade support path
- Local support
- All factory safeties left in tact
- All software and flashing tools developed in-house

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

If you're local to GIAC there's your answer right there. Buy from GIAC and be done with it.
