O2 Sensor Removal Help?
O2 Sensor Removal Help?
Hey Guys,
Hoping to get a little help here before I break something...Usually I break, then ask
I have been getting a P3122 error with Durametric...seems to indicate a bad pre-cat O2 sensor Bank 1(Driver)? Sensor 1(which I think/hope is the cause of the hesitation and sputtering etc on acceleration)...So I bought an OEM O2 and will rip apart the bumper cover etc. today.
My Question is what is the trick to getting the clip/plug end off? Near the breather where it plugs in to the harness that plug looks freaky?
Thought I would ask first...because about 50% of the time I end up breaking the Porsche clips.
Any help/pics/tips appreciated!
Thanks,
DC

Specifically I do not know. But generally (this has been the case with other Porsches) the O2 sensor connector has some kind of clasp/catch that keeps the sensor connector and the wiring harness connector secured. One has to press a lever/tab to cause this clasp/catch to raise or open so the connectors can be separated.
You may find this easier to do by pushing the two connectors together -- which takes some pressure off the clasp/catch -- as you press the release lever/tab.
Be very careful handling the new sensor. Do not touch its tip. Do not use thread lube. Avoid static discharge to the sensor connector and the wiring harness connector (which is a direct route to the DME).

Just push that little lever as indicated. Usually you'll first hear a clicking sound, then just pull the connectors apart. Your connector might look somewhat different though as this one is from 997.2 TT but that's how it goes.
Good luck.

Good luck.
Thanks guys for the help! I got it. The issue was I thought it unplugged from the front.....After you pull it up and out of the holder, it looks like many other Porsche clips...Duh. Appreciate your help though!
Put the new wide band front/before cat sensor in and cleared codes... so far no CEL....fingers crossed. It seems to run much better and did not notice any hesitation on hard acceleration this time(as before) ....will see if it does it again after it gets really warmed up?? Hope not.
One interesting thing that may help others....for some reason Durametric keeps throwing a manual transmission fault code....then it will give the O2 code...then sometimes the tranny code (and I have a Tip...not manual)....Just FYI.
