Thanks for the explanation. If that's the case it's pretty impressive in terms of the power gains. At first the dyno chart looked to me like it was one run in normal mode vs sports mode since you get a temporary power gain between 2K and ~4K in sports more, then it drops off at higher RPMs

Any dyno runs with a tuned car and exhaust plus the plenum? Are the plenum gains marginal or further enhanced if you have an exhaust and tune already?

Thanks
Art

I purchased the Champion/GIAC tune and will get it installed next week. So I'm happy to go back to the Cobb dyno afterwards so see the results of the plenum + tune.

longboarder, out of curiosity, how are you handling fans on the dyno? I work with the cobb here in dallas and they wont dyno my car because they dont have proper cooling for us, just the one fan up front. Did they put mobile fans ahead of/behind the ICs?

Good question.

Cobb does not do many Porsche's, their fans are fixed to direct air to the front of cars only. So two Home Depot leaf blowers were used to blow air into the side vents/intercoolers. Cobb wouldn't allow anyone in the dyno room so the leaf blowers had to be taped to metal folding chairs.

I didn't get any IAT or other data from Cobb so I have no idea whether the leaf-blowers were able to replicate real-world air-flow conditions.

I have the GIAC tune and love it, you will see a huge difference, especially on the race gas! I didn't realize however you can get the GIAC tune with 100 octane. The tune I had done by Wright Motorsport is for 110 unleaded. They said I can go as low as 104/105 and the car will pull timing, but I didn't realize you could get a 100 tune. Is that standard or are you getting something special for 100 octane?

Is there any gain from doing the 82mm TB along with this on an otherwise stock turbo?

I guess I'm not 100% certain that it's a 100 octane file lol. I purchased the tune through Champion/GIAC and spoke with both of them and from what I remember, I will get three tunes on the ECU - stock, 91 oct tune and 100 oct tune. I guess I'll find out tomorrow or Tues when I have it installed.

Yes, 82mm will give you more top end power, about same 30whp
When my car was with stock turbos, after installing ipd plenum with 82 mm throttle body and aftermarket intercoolers, i have picked up about 50whp through all power band (exhaust, headers and tune was installed previously)
Best 1/4 mile time was 10,4@135, before this mods 10,7@131

Even now with gtx3583 i am still using IPD 82mm plenum and will be using in future with pte6466 turbos because they works great for such cheap price!

Your tune should be for 100 octane, as we have never explicitly sold a leaded 110 file.

Just so I understand, you did the 10,7@131 with just a tune? And then you installed the TB and plenum and did a 10,4@135?

Thanks!

Thomas this thing just keeps getting faster and faster as it adapts. I put 10 gals of 100 octane on the 91 file and holy crap...I can't wait to fill it up with 100 and try the 100 octane file!

On my way home from work last night I took a detour to Mexico and happened to find a 1000cc sport bike that wanted to run. In the middle of nowhere thankfully. We caught a red light and lets just say I got him off the line and he couldn't catch me

Gotta love those business trips to Mexico . Looking forward to getting some open runway time at NFZ!
