Alternative to GT2 seats - Sparco seats recovered in leather

I have the natural leather in my 997 TT so if I wanted GT2 seats I wouldn't be able to get them in my interior color anyway. Apparently Classic 9 can do an almost exact match and recover any seats in the stock leather color. Cost is ~$1850 for two seats. I was considering getting a pair of Sparco fixed back race seats and using these as the base for recovering. Any thoughts on this? I realize I'd need to find a pair that fit me first before committing to ordering and recovering. It seems I'd only be out about $3000 to have color matched seats. I couldn't find anyone else that had gone this route.

Years ago I had race seats in my M3 and loved the look and feel. If this matched my pretty rare interior color, I think it'd look pretty slick and it would be 100% reversible. Sparco is a reputable seat manufacturer as well so I'd be comfortable putting them in a 200mph car.

I had a set of Sparco's in my old G35 and I loved them - definitely worth the money especially considering the cost of the GT2's seats.

I really like the Recaro Sportster CS design which is kinda similar to GT2 seats:

That looks like a nice seat. Keep us posted as to how you get around the side-airbags missing from these seats and the other sensors such as the passenger on/off sensor for the airbag. I am pretty sure it's against the law to tamper with these "safety" equipment and not sure what the ramifications are?

I ended up getting a great deal on authentic GT2 seats and changed over to those (but then again I have a black interior).

Good luck and looking forward to the updates.

Cheers.

Oops. I forgot about those. Scratch that then...adaptive sport seats will be fine for me.

It can't be against law because it is not a legal requirement to have airbags. Otherwise aftermarket seat market wouldn't be able to survive.

I hope someone with more knowledge steps in, but to my knowledge it is against federal law to tamper with safety and emissions equipment on cars. The aftermarket gets away with it by labeling those types of products as "not for street use" or "racing only" use. However, I know that dealers/mechanics are responsible if they mess with them, e.g., removing O2 sensors or seatbelts.

I am pretty sure about the above, but need to do more research or someone who knows hopefully responds as I am thinking of putting aftermarket seats in my other car but the risk of a lawsuit in case of an accident is keeping me away so far.

As far as my situation goes, I forgot about the side airbags (other cars have been in the doors). While I don't feel significantly safer with side airbags, I don't want to have to deal with turning sensors off or ECU mods to get it done.

It's the side airbags and the airbag on/off switch built into the passenger seat also. There are ways to fool it in a Vette, but I am not sure about Porsches.
