Numeric Racing shifter cables... need some help

Fellas,
ive got a numeric racing shifter, cables, rss semisolid motor mounts on my car.
the cables FEEL amazing. perfect. the shifter takes effort to put in gear (in a good way. VERY solid, doesnt have that wiggle that fatory cables have). its kind of like a gt2 slave conversion but for the shifter (hope that makes sense).

anywho, theres quite a bit of chatter. very audible both on and off throttle.
i almost always have music playing so that i dont have to hear it but i dont want to deal with it anymore.

i want to have my cake and eat it too. what are my options ? sound deadening materials ? can i put rubber somewhere ? i was told if i went back to my gt3 ssk that the chatter would be significantly reduced.. but i love my shifter (i have it on the lowest setting and it feels amazing).

i know im not the only member thats experiencing this, so any help would be appreciated by a few of us.

check out these pics. theres absolutely no play in the cables. there's gotta be a way to be eliminate or at least significantly reduce drivetrain noise.

(the pic of 3 sets of cables is cup car, numeric, and oem 996/997 cables)

for comparision, look how much flex there is in the factory cables... you can see how theyre flexed even while stationary. the pic on the right his the numeric. look how straight and solid it looks.

I'm guessing you aren't running a/c in NY this time of year. I noticed the noises were far more obvious with a/c on. Otherwise it seems to be intermittent, and I haven't figured out why that is. Pretty much disappears when the clutch pedal is depressed so presumably it's something to do with load on the engine? There are adjustments on the cable for length so possibly tinkering with that would help. Good luck! keep us posted.

theres virtually no chatter at idle.. its when driving... cruising... letting off throttle... the sound comes from the shifter area. the adjustments dont do anything to eliminate the sound.

im being told theres no fix and that the consequence of a precise shift with no play is chatter. im bummed. i tried to live with it but its just unacceptable for a DD. i took my friend for a ride and he thought my transmission was gonna explode.

Do you also have a LWFW?

I have the numeric shifter fitted and the RSS mounts too and there is a bit more chatter.

I have the cables but have not fitted them yet.

Nick, nope. i have the steel/carbon flywheel from ERP. its not light (24 lbs i believe). theres not much chatter at idle. its as you start driving. sounds like marbles.
when i had just the numeric shifter and rss mounts, it was ok. there was a little chatter under load, but not more than we experience with a lwfw.

but since putting the cables on, i'de say the sound magnified 5 fold. accel and decel.. like i have straight cut gears on a cup car lol

Maybe that's the trade off with the sloppy, bendy, flexy cables vs the rigid larger, chunkier ones.

Or its amplifying a problem in the gearbox?

gearbox is good. its got 10k miles on it (remember, i put in a gt2 box in my car). ive only had the cables on for a month, prior to that it was fine.
i remember when installing it, i was able to wiggle the rod inside the cable and heard the metal touching metal. i was warned that it would chatter but i didnt want to listen.
theres another member on here who has the same setup and is working with his mechanic to possibly add some more sound deadening materials in the shifter console, but i cant see that helping much.

i may remove the shifter and go back to a gt3 shifter to see how it feels before i have to remove the cables. maybe the plastic frame of the shifter would help to deaden the chatter ?

say im cruising on the highway. 75mph in 6th gear 2500rpm. there will be noticable chatter.

say im cruising at 75mph in 4th at 4500 rpm, theres no chatter. when im on it, or at a high rpm theres no issue. its just the other 90% of the time when im daily driving my daily driver that theres a problem. lol

I think what we need is other guys to chime in who have fitted the cables and the shifter to say they have the same noise or its only yours as their car is fine.

Then we can pin point the culprit.

I believe it is the cable. I have the Numeric cable and the stock shifter. Mine isn't too bad for noise though and I can easily live with it.

Well I'm hoping to fit my cables in the next few weeks so see what happens

P.S. Steve how are you finding the ERP, which kit did you grab?

Nick , i got my ERP in April of this year. Im not sure which version it is. i have the steel flywheel. i like the clutch. its a bit jittery when moving from a stop. it takes a little getting used to. once you get the hang of it, its awesome. sooo easy to slip (and not have to worry about damaging it).

no exaggeration, i've probably launched my car well over a hundred times... and when i say launch, i mean slip the clutch 20-30 feet with no issues while staying on my torque band (4-4.5k rpm).

i think i experience a little more jerkiness from a stop than most due to the longer first gear.

bogg, what kind of flywheel do u have ? what about motormounts ?
