Fidelity warranty and aftermarket tune

I've seen a number of threads pop up around the CPO or factory warranty and a tune, but not much regarding Fidelity. If something does happen, isn't it in the best interest of the dealer to not offer up info they find about a tune to the Fidelity people? For CPO I can understand not wanting to fix a tuned car that had turbos fail for example.

Currently I have exhaust only on my 07 997 and have both the CPO as well as Fidelity for the next six years (having a period of overlap was cheaper than waiting and purchasing with higher miles upon expiration of CPO).

Does anyone have experience with Fidelity or Easycare and a tune?

This is exactly my situation. I bought the fidelity a few months before my cpo ran out as well. I also just have the exhaust as my mod. Based on what my service advisor said, if the claim is anything more than $1500 and something out of the ordinary related to the engine (blown turbo, head gasket, etc) fidelity most likely will send a rep to check out the car before they authorize the repair. That's all I needed to hear to pass on the tune. Unfortunately when it comes to a tune, it appears you can't have your cake and eat it too. I think you have to be ok with some risk if you tune. But I would love to hear others if they've heard or experienced otherwise.

Eh...guess I'll have to make do with 500 crank hp and a 9.5 sec 60-130.

i had a fidelity warranty on my 996 for 3 years. i used it numerous times. i think theres a $200 deductable that has to be paid, a rep comes down. looks at the car and signs off on the work. they dont check the ecu. they just do a physical inspection. lets say youre doing a claim on your throttle body. if they see an exhaust (or a bmc filter), you will be denied. if youre doing a claim on the transmission (2nd gear popout) and they see non oem sized tires, you will be denied (i learned this one the hard way, but i managed to get it approved).

they dont check the ECU. and even if they did (which they NEVER EVER EVER EVER do), they wouldnt know if the car was tuned. their inspection is always visual, and thats only if they have to come down to approve claims. the only ones who would know is a porsche dealership, and they almost NEVER check for tunes (because these engines dont break). I use to be a salesman for Porsche from 2007-2008. you will never ever have a problem with having an ecu tune. if i had a child i would sacrifice them against my statement . these arent bmw m3's and those types of cars. the gt1 motor is literally a racing engine that has been detuned so much from that factory that its almost insulting to mr metzger . this is the same block that gets put through 24 hours of lemons for nearly 2 decades.

have fun. get a tune(FVD), get an exhaust. enjoy your turbo for 100k+ modded miles.

being afraid of putting a tune on a turbo is like not walking outside in the winter for fear of freezing to death.

This EasyCare or Fidelity rep coming out to check and authorize repair is what forces me to carry the warranty. The porsche dealer charges higher than list on parts and higher than labor prices when driver has to pay. But they cannot do that with EasyCare. I caught them at that.....was having warranty work done and nonwarranty water-hose repaired which required engine pull. On the clutch I replaced, I was charged 20% for parts over list, but when I looked at warranty work, a heat exchanger and front axles/boots, only list prices and list labor were there. The excuse they gave is they are a small dealer and can charge what they want. They seemed to indicate any Porsche dealer will do same. When I asked EasyCare about this, they told me that is why vehicle owners with cars out of factory warranty need warranty coverage especially with Porsche to control overcharging.

Wow that's terrible! How can they deny a claim on a throttle body because of an exhaust? Well I have an exhaust upgrade like the OP of this thread. I guess I always felt that an exhaust is such a benign mod relative to others that unless they could prove that the mod caused the problem, you'd be ok with at least the exhaust. Wow I guess I'll have to swap out my exhaust if I ever have a major issue before I take the car in

Did you ever have any problems with warranty work being denied because of exhaust or tune (I seem to recall you had a Europipe as well?)?

Thanks

i never had an issue with my throttle body, i was just giving you a theoretical example of what they would deny warranty claims for.
i did have an issue when my 2nd gear pop out was being addressed. the rep came down, saw 19" wheels on my car, and they initially denied the repair. i got on the phone, explained that my OEM wheels were getting repaired and that we had to put 19's on the car to move it around the shop with the transmission out of the car.

PCNA will deny warranties because of tunes, but according to my SA Fidelity or EasyCare rarely send their reps down unless it's for a big ticket repair. Even then, they don't check to see if the ECU has been modded. They will look for visual signs on if the car has been modded, so if you have to do a major engine repair I'd probably at least have the dealer put the stock exhaust back on before the AM warranty rep come and look at the car.

i had Fidelity on my previous 02 996 C2- Tubi exhaust, RSS Plenum, only mods- They paid for RMS repair & few other minor items.

However, the contract is certainly written so they can deny claims if aftermarket items are on car. Also wear items that they may normally cover could be denied if car has >50k miles-.
