New owner with a smog question

Hi All,
I was wondering if you could refer or suggest a friendly smog station ? I just bought a 2012 TTS with europipe exhaust from out-of-state, don't want to have to jump through hoops trying to get it registered and smogged, any info would be helpful . I'm located in the Thousand Oaks area .

Thanks , Dennis

I'm responding so I can get my 15 posts to send pm's. You might try Rusnak-3839 Auto Mall Drive Thousand Oaks, CA 91362. I spoke to them about a few cars and they were pretty cooperative.

wd40, thanks for the reply, but I am trying to avoid dealer because I have aftermarket exhaust "EP" and I know dealers typically frown on this. Also heard Rusnak in WLV isn't
the best place to go for service

We have a place we prefer in the Anaheim area, but this might be a bit of a drive for you.

Does anybody have some insight? Im guessing I can have a pre-test done and if everything is ok go ahead for the regular smog test. Just trying to avoid being red flagged into the CA DMV system

just had my car smog tested this morning, passed no problem with tune and europipe. The Turbo is a clean car to begin with (at least the 997.1 is so assume the later model is even cleaner) and the Europipe uses the best cats out there.

Emmanuele Design, Anaheim may be a bit far for me, but on the bright side the drive would let the engine reach optimum temp lol

I would be extremely surprised if you didn't pass. Europipe still has the Cats.

So it seems that I should be ok with the actual smog test, but could there be a problem with the visual pre-inspection ? Which would fail me before I get a chance for the actual smog test.

Last time I did the smog test, The DOT couldn't get a reading (maybe to clean) and used mirrors to check the car. I asked them, what are you looking for, they replied "Cats." (catalytic convertors.)

I was confused by their comment, why would you look for something that would hide the Smog test? To be honest they were confused by the car to start with though. I remember them saying the wing raises at 30MPH! That may be true if you change it with the Durametric but, I am there for Emissions.

Dubad1, see attached for a thread Stef@Europipe began on the emission levels of their EP exhausts...you'll see that they run clean (as good/better than stock) and should pass CA smog tests...hope this helps

Just take it to a local gas station they will not know the difference but I think with a out of state car that is a few years old you might have to take it to the DMV.

It's my understanding that Calif does not allow any changes to the exhaust system but the provision is not very well enforced. I've also heard that they plan to get more strict, but I'm not sure about that. There are lots of mom and pop smog stations in Calif that wouldn't have a clue about how a rare car like this is supposed to be equipped and unless it's a catless system it should pass with flying colors.

Your worried about not passing smog with the a aftermarket exhaust???? Won't be a problem just go to any smog shop and get it done. I had no cats and a tune and still passed with no issues. As long as you don't have a cel on you won't have any issues.

The only issue I had was my tech couldn't keep the revs high enough until we figured out he had to also keep the clutch down...

I had a techart exhaust on my 2001 twin turbo and always passed with no problem. I just passed with a 99 Ferrari 355 with Gruppe M carbon air intake, tubi exhaust and ceramic coated headers. I now purchased a 2011 twin turbo porsche and plan to purchase an after market exhaust. I would not worry to much.
