Longboarder's NoFlyZone 3-29-14 Airstrip Races
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks!
As you know dynos are done when the car has cooled down with fans blowing everywhere so it doesn't represent real world conditions. So when the cars go to desert and it's baking hot particularly on a black tarmac that is radiating heat at 120+ degrees then the conditions aren't so ideal like they were on the dyno...they may not have the power they quoted...although there always are a few sandbaggers! Add to that all the variability between dyno's and that's why bench racing is such a joke. The only way to really race is have two cars run in the same place, same time, same conditions.
I asked GIAC your very question and they said that if Porsche was quoting the crank HP number for this mod combination, it would be conservatively estimated at 675-700.
Yeah Eric's car is an absolute beast and so impressive for only being Renntech 91 oct tune + downpipes. He trapped 131 in the quarter mile with just a tune and r888 tires last time we went. I bet he's a solid 132-133 now with the downpipes and updated tune.
Hi Geoff - glad you enjoyed the video! I'll have another one in a couple weeks as April 19th and 20th I will be at Shift S3ctor's Airstrip Attack.
The plenum is fantastic. It needs tune in order to work optimally otherwise the ECU will dial back timing/boost around 4,000 rpm like it did for me when I tested it on the dyno. It built a 30HP and 35TQ increase over stock by about 3,000 RPM but by 4,500 RPM, the ECU dialed back all the gains. With a tune to defeat the factory ECU limits, I would say that paired with a tune, it's worth at least 30 HP in the mid range (where you feel it most) and maybe 10-15 HP top end.
Not sure where you live but Shift S3ctor just announed an Airstrip event at Colorado Springs Airport in June:

Thanks!
Very nice video editing my man including the different camera angles. I guess you've reached about the bolt on limit - unless you're going to convert to E85. I'm curious about where you think you are HP wise at the crank now. Obviously many others think they are producing a lot more than they really are.

Yes, that was a fun run.
One of the spectators came to me while we were waiting in the line and said "I just want you to know that I have $20 riding on your race and that the Camaro will beat you" another spectator said "I'll bet $100 that the Porsche beats the Camaro"
That kind of had me worried!! I let the Camaro have the jump at the cones but passed him before I shifted to 3rd and probably beat him by at least 10 cars!!!!! At least the spectator who lost waved goodbye to me when I left for the day!! There is always a bunch of nice guys, both spectators and drivers at these events!

Crank power output is very subjective because it's based on a correctino factor that isn't all that scientific. It's basically up to the person doing the calculation. For instance, if you compare the trap speeds with what others claim for crank hp, we could claim as high as 800 BHP (135+ mph trap). However, we would conservatively put it right around 690BHP based on a claimed 530BHP factory output in comparison to what it makes stock on our dyno (~470-475 horsepower to 4 wheels).

Ken, You're teasing us with a private video...
This is my view of the race with Longboarder, it is my 1st attempt at a video and my camera angles are not as good as Adam's!!! I did jump the Supra at the beginning.

Thanks for posting the video Ken. Wow, those Champion 68s rock. I thought the Mustang was going to be more of a challenge based on the start but he fell waaaay back quickly. Nice jump on that Supra. I was waiting for him to find the right gear and hit the afterburner but it didn't happen.
Very impressive Ken, the guy in the Mustang must have been crushed. You along with Longboarder have represented us well. BTW, I grew up in Orange, it was like growing up in Mayberry RFD.

The 68's are great!! But keep in mind the power increase is substantially the mapping. I'm told that GIAC could map the 68s to boost to 32psi but only have them spiking to 21 for a fraction of a second to protect the engine. Look at Longboarder's results, the mapping he has had has enabled him to take advantage of his mods to a tremendous degree!! He is now limited only to his DFI and PDK.
Looks like you guys had fun, i had to miss that last one but plan on being at Shift sector in a couple of weeks,i've been working on my speed shifting so look out

The look on my face when you pulled away like that from the Supra must've been priceless. Especially considering his result versus Longboarder.
Nice! You can see just how much more top end you have Ken. The 68s absolutely rock!
Try to negotiate a 3rd gear (50+mph) roll against your opponents. The 2-3 shift is what hurts a lot of people so if you can eliminate that, you will be in good shape.
If that is the Team Spankin Time Mustang, he claims 763RWHP and sports a 4.0L Kenne Belle Blower. That is a very fast car and a very impressive win.
