crazy deal from tire rack.. (EVERYONE check this out)

Guys, i just came accross this on tire rack.
this tire is in the same category as michelin cups and toyo r888s etc.
for $230 it's a no brainer. this tire will outgrip any street tire on the market (michelin supersport included). with a 140 treadwear it will last a full seasons worth of absolute abuse.

if you have $460 (for a set !!)burning a hole in your pocket, get these tires. the difference between a competition tire and a street tire is night and day. treat yourselves to some lateral G-force !

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

the difference between a street tire and a competition tire is like the difference between a stock 997 and a 997 with full suspension upgrades.
these tires run wide too (12.3") so it'll look wide from the rear especially on a 12" wheel.

Great deal! BTW, production dates are 2009 for front and 2010 for rear. Not sure how 4~5 year old tires affects the performance.

yup i saw that. nothing to be concerned about for 2 reasons. first, it has a 140 treadwear (so it'll probably be toast between 5-7k miles with hard driving), and if any of us are buying it, we should be buying it with the intention to have fun and really experience what a porsche is capable on a set of sticky tires.
second, theyve probably sat at tire racks warehouse, which im sure is temperature controlled, and probably never saw sunlight (which is what causes cracks on old tires).

sitting at room temperature weather for a few years wont do anything to brand new tires, remember new tires come with that coating that gives the that shine. (it usually takes 25-50 miles, depending on the tire for the coating to come off.

some reviews. (you can filter by porsche)

I bought a set of these for my last p-car in 18", and I liked them much better than the P-zeros that they replaced. better handling, less road noise, and better ride. I thought they were a great tire at a very attractive price point.

Ozone is the biggest destroyer of rubber and if the oil coating on these tires has rubbed off in any area that area will be in pretty bad shape compared to the rest of the tire.

But having said that for the price, I think it's a risk well worth taking. I just wish my MPSS tires weren't in as good a shape as these. Argh...........

Tire test

What timing, i was just reading a tire shootout online. One of the car mags- ( car driver - or road and track, forget which one) and they tested the michelin ps2's vs some lower cost alternatives, and surprisingly , the michelins did not come in 1st place. The only tire that did really bad, was a chinese branded tire, ling long ??? Or something along those lines. The tires they rested are available at tire rack and at $868 for a full set of 4 tires, for better performance than the michelins, what a deal. Interesting article though. I could post a link, but i dont want to break any forum rules.

I haven't run these before, but have tried the V12 Evo from Hankook and they did surprisingly well in the dry.

Not a problem. I was a factory rep for Michelin for several years and they don't even require inspecting tire casings until they are at least eight years old. (Obviously, if something has been sitting out in the sun for eight years, this would be a different story.)

deaddana - would love to see that report if you can PM it to me or post it online.

fforman - I thought Michelin's guideline was 6 years and then the tires should be inspected every year after that?

512- I haven't worked for Michelin since 2005, but it looks like the most recent TSB calls for annual inspections now starting at 5 years, with full replacement required at 10 years. My apologies, I may have been confusing things with the commercial over-the-road truck tire casings, which amazingly, used to carry a 7 year/750K mile warranty (for retreading the casing)

Stay away from the ling longs

Sounds like you'll be ling dead. Not worth saving a few bucks, but the hankooks- talk about bang for the buck.

I have a set of these and they are a great tire. I use them for autocross and driving in the dry only. I got caught out in the rain and it was pretty scary coming home on the interstate. Much better for a drive to the event tire than the r888 in my opinion, much quieter and almost as sticky!
