Blacked Out Tips
Blacked Out Tips
Now that I have missed my car for the past six months and finally having some semblance of spring I am ready to enjoy it again.
Having been inspired by some recent posts and pics I have been inspired to black out my tailpipe tips. I was never really fond of the chrome finish and found that it was very difficult to keep clean. Besides, I really think that there is a minimal need for chrome on these cars. I am very pleased with the results.

I ended up having it done for me because it was at a shop already for clear bra, radar/laser. I love the black tips. The chrome was dirty every time I drove it.
I used a high temperature paint (actually black caliper paint) from my local auto parts store. I think any brand will work just as well, don't imagine there's a difference between brands.
It looked like a flat black on the can cap.
Instructions required baking for 1 hour at 200F to cure. Once finished they appear to have a bit of a glossy shine to them.

Very nice.
careful with heat. If it's a DD then you're probably alright. I PC the tips of my C4S and after five laps on the track, the pipes looked like they had been snorting coke. Black PC was pulverized, and reduced to white dust. It was kinda cool. Got them ceramic coated after that, no charge.
Thank you. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to change the rear Turbo emblem. I don't want black because I want to be able to see it, but I like that satin or whatever it's called. Unsure.
